To this end, UNICEF is working with governments, donors and partners to improve the planning and implementation of digital health systems to accelerate primary health care. The digital transformation of health systems has the potential to revolutionize patient care and healthcare outcomes on a global scale. Strengthened capacity of the health workforce, the adoption of standards-based technologies, as well as the implementation of data-driven decision-making processes are key to transformation. This comprehensive approach can directly enhance efficiency, accuracy and accessibility of health services, while also facilitating better communication and coordination among healthcare professionals.

How can you make a difference? 

The intern will provide technical assistance across a range of areas that will support UNICEF’s digital health and information systems work, including:

  • Support information and knowledge management activities through maintenance of key online platforms and tracking tools.
  • Support the writing of business cases on new emerging topics and evidence-based digital health programming through data collection/analysis, research, and document reviews. 
  • Support quarterly analysis of UNICEF’s investments in digital health across country offices and health programmes, including immunization, MNCAH, and adolescent mental health. 

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will… 

  •  Be enrolled in an undergraduate university degree or higher in public health, international development or health policy, or have graduated within the past 2 years •
  • Have basic knowledge of maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health issues and of health programs in low and middle-income countries. 
  • Have a specific interest in and knowledge of digital health technologies. 
  • Possess excellent English proficiency. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset. 
  • Have excellent oral and written communication skills. 

To following supporting documents are required to apply:

  • Letter of verification from the college or university that the intern is currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate school.  It should also state the expected graduation date. Recent graduates are allowed until 2 years after degree completion. 
  • Copy of their most recent official transcript showing excellent academic performance 
  • Copy of Identification Card (ID) 
  • One letter of signed recommendation on letterhead or from professional email address
  • Certification of valid health insurance coverage for the whole internship duration

Initially the intern will take on the amount of responsibility s/he can shoulder; the potential for growth, however, is theirs to develop.

UNICEF appointments are subject to medical clearance. Issuance of a visa by the host country of the duty station, which will be facilitated by UNICEF, is required for IP positions. Appointments may also be subject to inoculation (vaccination) requirements, including against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid). Government employees that are considered for employment with UNICEF are normally required to resign from their government before taking up an assignment with UNICEF. UNICEF reserves the right to withdraw an offer of appointment, without compensation, if a visa or medical clearance is not obtained, or necessary inoculation requirements are not met, within a reasonable period for any reason.
