Together, with donors, recipients, employees, partners and volunteers, Canadian Blood Services is Canada’s Lifeline, providing lifesaving products and services in transfusion and transplantation for Canadian patients, and safeguarding Canada’s systems of life essentials in blood, plasma, stem cells, and organs and tissues.Canadian Blood Services (CBS) is seeking a full-time Development Scientist to join its dynamic Medical Affairs and Innovation group as part of the Product and Process Development team, reporting to the Associate Director.The work of a Scientist is integral to CBS’s role as Canada’s Lifeline and this role will help advance Canadian science within the context of the CBS research and development mandate. The Development Scientist will support CBS’s product and process development program by providing scientific leadership to development projects and the netCAD Blood4Research applied development facility. This entails demonstrating leadership skills in the application of the scientific method to the development, understanding, and improvement of blood and blood components and the processes used for their manufacture. It includes the preparation of literature reviews, designing development studies and laboratory experiments, analyzing data, and interpreting findings. The Development Scientist will also write and review technical reports, prepare conference abstracts and presentations, publish peer-reviewed papers, and may participate on technical committees at the national and international level.As an ideal candidate, you have a PhD degree with a specialization in blood and blood components from a recognized academic institution. You ideally possess experience in blood component processing, development, and characterization or you have related experience that can be applied in the context of CBS applied development activities. A minimum of two years post-doctoral experience with a focus in applied development of biologics and transfusion science is preferred. You have a demonstrated ability to design and execute scientific studies, analyze data, interpret results, and disseminate findings both internally via technical reports, and externally via publications in high quality journals. Finally, you possess excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with an ability to synthesize complex scientific information and disseminate it with clear and concise messaging using plain language.
