Job Description:UOE08 – £48,350 – £59,421Finance / College of Science and EngineeringContract Type – Fixed Term – 1 YearFull Time – 35 Hours Per WeekWe are looking for a Finance Business Partner to join our team within the College of Science and Engineering working with the College Office and College Wide functions. Finance Business Partners will work closely with senior management teams providing strategic insight, analysis and advice enabling the delivery of sustainable financial forecasting and performance; advocate and support consistent application of finance policy and procedures; and line manage finance partnering team.With nearly 2,900 staff and over 10,000 students, the College is one of the largest science and engineering groupings in the UK. The College is made up of seven schools (Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Physics & Astronomy, GeoSciences, Informatics, Mathematics and Engineering), and two main further business units (The Edinburgh Parallel Computing Centre [EPCC] and the Bayes Centre).Your skills and attributes for success:
- Degree or equivalent with a relevant professional financial/accounting qualification (e.g. ICAS, ICAEW, CIMA or CIPFA)
- A proven record of accomplishment in managing relevant financial and administrative tasks, preferably some in an HE environment.
- Experience of leading and managing significant projects and budgets.
- Experience of providing analysis and strategic advice to senior managers.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, proven ability to explain complex finance concepts and the implication of financial decisions to non-specialists, excellent analytical skills and admirable IT skills (in particular, design and use of complex spreadsheets).
- Superb interpersonal, people management and time management skills, with proven ability to influence others to achieve aims and evidence of successfully developing own team.

It exercises control over the University’s finances, provides expert financial guidance particularly for key decision making, and provides an effective services and information for the financial conduct of the University’s business. Headed by Professor Iain Gordon, CSE comprises seven Schools (Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Engineering, GeoSciences, Informatics, Mathematics, and Physics and Astronomy) as well as a national supercomputing centre (the Edinburgh Parallel Computing Centre) and the Bayes Centre for interdisciplinary data science and innovation. We extend beyond the University through many joint activities – for example we host the cross-Scotland DataLab innovation Centre, we are a founding partner in the Scottish Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Centre, and we are a partner in UK-wide collaborations including the Alan Turing Institute and the Rosalind Franklin Institute. Most Schools are located 2 miles south of the city centre at the King’s Buildings whilst Informatics, EPCC, Bayes and sections of GeoSciences are located in the University’s Central Area near George Square. The College has over 3,000 academic and support staff, and educates around 7,000 undergraduates, almost 1,500 taught postgraduates and more than 2,000 research students.
