Are you interested in the opportunity to join the team of staff within one of the largest teaching hospitals in Europe? We are looking for two enthusiastic vascular surgeons to join as research fellows in our vascular and major trauma service. This particular post is at Specialty Registrar level ST3+ level and in addition to working toward a post-graduate research degree, will support the delivery of services including participation in 1:9 Vascular and Major Trauma Surgery acute rotaMain duties of the jobThe post of Clinical Research Fellow in Trauma and Vascular Surgery is for 1 year, with a view to further extension by mutual agreement, allocated to the Leeds Vascular Institute. The post holder will be engaged in a vascular research project with a view to submitting the work for a higher degree (MSc/MD/PhD).Vascular surgery is embedded within internationally recognised research infrastructure at the University of Leeds including the Leeds NIHR BRC, NIHR Surgical MedTech MIC, RCS Clinical Trials Unit and BHF training centre.Currently, we have projects which encompass clinical vascular research as well as laboratory-based studies in a range of subjects including the cell biology of vascular disease, biomarkers of plaque stability, and vascular tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.You will join a team of 1 ACL, 3 ACFs, 1 AFP and 1 trust research fellow. In addition to the research work, there are also clinical duties which include a day-case operating list and outpatient clinics. The post holder will also participate in the vascular and major trauma surgical StR acute out of hours rota.About usLeeds Vascular Institute (Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust) is a thriving busy vascular surgery department and in addition the vascular surgeons participate in the Major Trauma Centre team. The applicant should therefore hold ATLS or an equivalent qualification. Job responsibilitiesThe successful candidate will be carefully supervised by Mr Russell, Mr T Wallace, Mr P Coughlin or Mr M Bailey and in all aspects of the clinical and laboratory research work, and in addition, have a senior (Professor or Reader in the University of Leeds) non-clinical co-supervisor based throughout his/her project. There are regular research meetings at which the work in progress is carefully evaluated and this also serves as a problem-solving forum. The Trust Doctor is actively encouraged to present his/her work at local, national and international meetings and it is expected that the research work is submitted to peer-reviewed journals. Previous Vascular Research Fellow post holders have been successful in being awarded either an MD or PhD Degree by the University of Leeds and it is expected that the current incumbent would also submit his/her work for such a higher degree. - 24 months experience after full GMC registration or equivalent, and evidence of achievement of foundation competences, in line with GMC standards / Good Medical Practice

- Be eligible for full registration with, and hold a current licence to practise from, the GMC at intended start date
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
- Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent (as required to complete Foundation competences) by intended start date
- Is up to date and fit to practise safely and is aware of own training needs.
