We would welcome applications from existing or newly trained Consultants who have an interest in holistic elderly care and encourage applicants who are dual trained in Geriatric & General Medicine. The position is to join our Resilience service multidisciplinary team with close links to the Elderly Medicine Service.There are a number of benefits working as part of the Resilience team at The Princess Alexandra Hospital including:

Main duties of the jobThis post provides an exciting opportunity to join a newly established Resilience service with close links to the Elderly Medicine team. The Resilience service will encompass a team of 3 Consultants, 1 Registrar and 4 juniors who will provide the following:

  • High quality inpatient care to a 31 bedded Medical Ward encompassing COVID, General Medical and Geriatrics
  • Medical Outliers located on Surgical Wards (50% of which are over the age of 75)

To post holder will lead and motivate the multidisciplinary team within his/her ward area in order to deliver effective patient-focused interventions and timely discharge planning. To create and maintain excellent working relationships with their own team, management team and external agencies such as community providers and ICBs. This includes effective communication in line with the Trust valuesTo engage fully in development of services to meet the anticipated future challenges of the ageing population. To lead on and drive forward innovations within service area. Services include our front-door (same-day-emergency-care) service, short stay unit as well as ortho-geriatric ward services, community clinics, Parkinson’s Disease clinics, cancer frailty clinic and general clinics, all designed to support our patients in their later years by meeting their changing needs seamlessly and avoiding crisis moments..The job plan will include a minimum of 8.5 PA direct clinical care as well as supporting professional activities. Direct clinical care will include ward rounds and outpatient clinics based at either at Princess Alexandra Hospital, Harlow or Herts and Essex, Bishops Stortford.On initial appointment there may not be a requirement to participate in the on-call rota (frailty or general medical), however, there will be a future requirements to join the frailty or general medical rota with the option for additional PAs or the job plan can be suitably modified for a candidate wishing to work a total of 10 PAs.Person Specification
