Special Conditions Uniform, footwear or personal protective equipment is supplied and is required to be worn ShareResearch Associate in Hollow Core Optical FibresAbout the roleThis is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to become a core part of a team working in the field of low-loss hollow-core optical fibres.The project is funded by a major optical fibre producer, Sumitomo Electric Industries, who will be working as a part of the team at the University.Within the project there are opportunities for developing the field in numerous ways, including:

  • Identifying novel/modified fibre designs with the potential to outperform current state-of-the-art
  • Deepening understanding of the behaviour of new and existing fibre structures using both theory and experiment
  • Further developing advanced fabrication processes to demonstrate high-performance fibres, including long fibre lengths
  • Demonstrating the lowest-attenuation optical fibre ever reported

This role would suit an imaginative and dynamic researcher with a selection of the following:

  • PhD or equivalent in a relevant research area
  • Good working knowledge of optics and photonics
  • Familiar with optical laboratory techniques
  • Understanding of the value of numerical simulations, computer literate
  • Enjoys achieving
  • Ability to work effectively as a part of a team
