Department of BiologyPostdoctoral Research Associate in innate immunityRoleApplications are open for a postdoctoral research associate position (36 months) to perform lab-based research on inflammasomes function in human innate lymphoid cells in response to bacterial infections in Dr Dave Boucher research group (www.boucherlab.org). The project is based within the department of Biology and the York Biomedical Research Institute. The project is funded by a New Investigator Grant from the Medical Research Council.Through the project, the PDRA will study the role of inflammatory caspases and the inflammasome pathway in controlling responses to infections in humans. The PDRA will build on strong preliminary data and use a combination of molecular techniques (e.g., western blot, cloning), cellular immunology (e.g., flow cytometry, Elisa), proteomics and high resolution microscopy. The candidate’s professional development will be supported by strong mentoring and through access to various technical and professional training and conferences throughout the position. The candidate will evolve in a supportive, collaborative and multidisciplinary environment in immunology and haematology.Skills, Experience & Qualification neededWe are looking for a candidate with skills in immunology and cellular biology.

  • A PhD in a relevant area (e.g., Immunology, Cellular Biology, or Biochemistry)
  • Experience with purification and handling of primary immune cells from human blood
  • Experience in handling and working with primary human innate lymphoid cells is desirable
  • Experience in cell culture and gene editing (desirable)
  • Experience performing and/or analysing proteomic experiments
  • Experience with fluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry is desirable.
  • Highly developed communication skills, attention to detail and commitment to high quality
  • Positive attitude to colleagues and students and a willingness to work proactively
  • Commitment to personal development and values of equality, diversity, and inclusion
