The British Embassy in Rome is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. We are now looking for a Digital and Brand Manager to be part of the Press and Public Affairs Section.
The selected candidate will lead on all digital activities, on the creation of social media content and on the delivery of marketing and branding of events and campaigns in support of the Italy Country Business Plan.
Roles and responsibilities:
Digital: to lead on the digital and social media strategy for the BE (British Embassy) Rome while producing high quality creative and engaging visual content, identifying innovative solutions for the @UKinItaly social media handles. To be a self-starter, with a flair for visuals, both stills and video. To update and manage Embassy/HMA social media accounts. To lead on social media monitoring for topics and conversations that are relevant for the UK. To lead on digital projects including high impact projections of @UKinItaly visuals in different physical contexts, including and starting from the premises of the BE in Rome, and to contribute to the digitalisation of events. To share knowledge and train colleagues around the Italy Network on the best use of visuals, digital and branding for their respective objectives.
Brand & marketing: as Embassy brand manager, to ensure firm control over the use of the British Embassy Rome logo and to lead on GREAT campaign digital assets use at post. To lead in the development of branded marketing products for the highest visual impact of the Embassy’s projects/initiatives.
Outreach: to contribute to the effective delivery of campaigns in support of UK government objectives in Italy, with a particular focus on major events. To lead on different activities organised by the Embassy, supporting the team on major campaigns and VIP visits, as necessary.
Media: occasionally, to draft press releases, media briefs, interviews and articles. Occasional contact handling with journalists. Occasional contribution to the daily press review and media monitoring activities of the Embassy and presentation of top media stories at daily meetings.
Corporate/crisis: to support the communication team in the event of a crisis, with media and social media monitoring and handling. To contribute to the wider FCDO corporate agenda through Network Groups and Committees or other activities.

- Proficiency in English and Italian ((at least C1 level under CEFRL or equivalent).
- Proven experience working in digital communications – ideally in a large-scale public sector body or a multinational organisation.
- A strong understanding of strategic communications and evaluation principles, with experience of having delivered successful communication campaigns, specifically on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.
- Experience and proven skills in video and photo editing.
- Experience in events management, including in multilingual environments.
- Experience of successful marketing/branding for high impact events and campaigns.

- Knowledge of the UK political environment and of the Italian political, cultural and media landscape.
- Driven and able to deliver in cross-team work and against challenging timelines, including taking initiative and bringing others along with you.

This is a full-time and permanent position graded EO according to the FCDO grading structure. The monthly gross salary is € 3,463.00 with an additional payment of € 10.33 EDR paid 13 times per year (pro-rata), with double salary payments in June and December. If working less than a full calendar year, the additional salary payments will be pro-rata.
The job will normally be 9-17, but will require a flexible approach, e.g. for out-of-office hours work duties. We are willing to discuss other potential flexibilities during the application process.
Working hours are 35 per week Monday-Friday, between 09:00-17:00. The FCDO has a wide learning and development (L&D) offer, including dedicated L&D days and focus groups open to all within the wider network.
All staff are enrolled in the Italian state social security and pension schemes, with flexibility to pay into the employee’s private pension scheme if chosen.
The appointment is subject to security clearance, professional background check and the successful completion of a probationary period of 4 months.
All staff employed by the British Embassy are subject to Italian income tax (IRPEF). However the administration of these tax payments will vary depending on nationality.
Staff recruited locally by British diplomatic missions in Italy are subject to terms and conditions of service according to local Italian employment law.
Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Italy and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
