Main purpose of job:
The Department for Business and Trade promotes and supports bilateral trade and investment across the Latin America & Caribbean (LATAC) region. Promoting LATAC as a trading destination for UK businesses is a key strategic priority, as well as promoting the UK’s key industrial strengths, demonstrating its leadership, creativity and innovation, and positioning the UK as a key trading partner for the LATAC region.
The UK’s Department for Business and Trade (DBT) is recruiting an intern for the Marketing and Communications team for Latin America and the Caribbean, to support the delivery of the business communications plan and marketing campaigns across the 19 markets where our teams are present.
The Marketing and Communications Intern will work at the British Consulate General in Sao Paulo and support the team by producing relevant and appealing content for different sectors and markets, such as press releases, briefs for media interviews, video production and edition, and social media assets. The job holder will also engage with the teams in other markets in LATAC and in London.
As this is a regional role, English at a fluent level is mandatory. Spanish is desirable.
Roles and responsibilities:
- 50% Content Creation: Work with teams across the region to develop impactful and attractive content and collateral to promote the UK and LATAC. Support on the development and implementation of a compelling narrative for the region, and across each of our key sectors, by writing and creating content for different platforms and formats, positioning the UK as a key partner for trade and investment. The job holder is comfortable working with Canva, Kapwing and Adobe Premiere.
- 25% Social Media Management: Create content across social channels like Twitter, LinkedIn, and, eventually, Instagram. Provide reports with data analysis.
- 25% Event Management: Support the organization of visits, tours, and events related to the DBT’s engagements in the region.

- Be currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree programme in Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
- Strong writing skills with ability to distinguish newsworthy content and produce clear, concise, and compelling content and copy.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with a proactive nature and capability to reach out to stakeholders to gather relevant data to compose content.
- Social media savvy and proficiency in managing social media accounts on platforms such as X (previously Twitter), LinkedIn, and Instagram.
- Adaptable to diverse cultural contexts and time zones.
- Ability to work well in a team.
- Proficiency in design editing tools (e.g., Canva) and video editing tools (e.g., Kapwing, Premiere).
- Fluency in written and spoken Portuguese and English, with the ability to write in English for a broad range of audiences.
- The legal status to live and work in Brazil in your own right, from time of application.

Must have the legal status to live and work in Brazil.
Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, e.g. some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.

This role is 30 hours a week. The British Consulate supports flexible working. However, the jobholder will be required to work in-person at the Sao Paulo Consulate at least 3 days a week, with the opportunity to work remotely/from home on occasion.
