Job Description
Main Purpose of the Job:
The Radio operator serves as the focal point for IRC main office ensuring the security and communications for the personnel and facilities. He/she will be responsible to ensure the functionality of communication equipment (AHF/VHF, radio, mobile…). He/she is assigned to track on all the daily movements to/from the field and provide security clearance.
Responsibilities:
General Duties
- Implement and maintain IRC standard security and communications systems and procedures.
- Provide technical support and advice to security guards and other staff.
- Monitor and report on security developments and trends
- Conduct training and development activities in accordance with needs and concerns
- Actively coordinate and contribute to information exchange both internally and externally
- Ensure understanding of roles, responsibilities, lateral relationships and accountabilities.
- Constant monitoring of all assigned IRC channels and if needed with UN and other NGOs at that site.
- Monitoring of convoys route from one location to another. And track staff movements according to IRC procedures.
Security & Communications Systems
- Assess and maintain security and communications in IRC facilities in consultation with a security officer.
- Facilitate proper use and maintenance of common communications, including HF and VHF radio networks and other communication technologies and ensure systems are fully functioning.
- Monitoring CCTV cameras all the time and report any suspicious activity to his/her supervisor.
- Send security alert SMS for staff in Kabul and field offices.
- Notification to his/her supervisor on any and all irregularities or incidents in any way related to the security of IRC staff or property.
- Report on situational developments, risks, and concerns.
- Establish, maintain, and/or facilitate links with existing incident reporting system(s) within office.
- Professional development, such as taking part in internal and external training.
- Perform other job related duties as requested by supervisor.
Qualifications
- Two year or more experience with INGOs. Security and communication-related experience is preferred.
- 14th Grade, University is preferred.
- Technical competency and training experience in field-based communications systems (such as HF/VHF, Thuraya/Mobile satellite systems)
- Excellent diplomatic, communication, and reporting skills
- Fluency in Dari, Pashtu and English (written, spoken, comprehension)
- Computer skills (including MS Word, and internet)
- Ability to work closely, professionally, and constructively with all others regardless of nationality, ethnicity, gender, religion, race, tribe, or cultural background
