Context of the position

The Sahel Regional Fund (SRF) is a new humanitarian fund to respond to the crisis in the Sahel region, the Chad Basin and eastern Chad. The SRF is hosted by the Danish Refugee Council (DRC), which is governed and led by NGOs working in the Sahel and financially supported by FCDO (UK Aid).

General presentation of the position

  • The role contributes to resources mobilization and fund development through the development of SRF advocacy and communication strategy based on evidence produced by the SRF. She/he provides administrative and logistic support as relevant for the SRF Fund Director and SRF board members in support of their representation and fundraising role.
  • The Programme Coordinator is based in Dakar and travels occasionally to the field and global events. S/he reports to the SRF Fund Director.

Responsibilities:  

Strategy, fund development and resource mobilization (50%)

  • Support the Fund Director in gathering relevant information and conducting consultation with key stakeholders (OCHA, NGO platforms, UN agencies, donors and other stakeholders) to inform the development of funding allocation.  
  • In collaboration with the Fund Management Unit, develop/update proposals and documentation to support contractualization process for new donor contributions. 
  • Support the Fund Director in monitoring emerging crisis and key trends to inform the SRF board quarterly meetings and update/maintain SRF narrative based on this regional evolving context Provide content for key communications materials including pagers, capacity statement and annual reporting in especially on beneficiaries’ stories or case studies etc. 
  • Contribute to and take the lead for the production of brief, surveys and position papers.  
  • Support the Fund Director in updating donor mapping, fundraising plan and contact list.  

Advocacy, communication and coordination (50%)

  • Develop and implement a SRF advocacy and communication strategy based on evidence produced by the SRF in coordination with DRC HQ, Brussels, Berlin and Geneva offices.  
  • Support the Fund Director and SRF board members to conduct external representation, fundraising and advocacy tasks through feeding of relevant information and advising on coherent and solid messaging.  
  • Develop key advocacy messaging based on evidence produced by the SRF. 
  • In coordination with the Grant and Compliance Specialist to develop a visibility and communication plan while ensuring compliance with donor communication requirements.  
  • Develop and produce SRF information and communication materials such as fact sheet, brochure, newsletters, stories / lessons learnt, human interest stories, photos and regularly update the SRF website, DRC website, SRF twitter and other relevant social media platform. 
  • Take an active role in organising public events in coordination with DRC HQ, Geneva, Brussels and Berlin offices and other stakeholders, and whenever organized by SRF partners.  
  • Provide administrative and logistic support as relevant for the board members in support of their representation role.

Profile for the position

Mandatory:

  • Master’s degree in international law, Human Rights or similar. 
  • At least 5 years’ experience working in advocacy on humanitarian issues, refugee rights, human rights, and/or development issues.  
  • Ability to write clear and concise briefs, statements, position papers, etc.  
  • Previous experience working with international partners, in particular Embassies, UN and NGOs. 
  • Full professional proficiency in French AND in English as 80% of communications on this position are in English.

  • Good contextual knowledge of the Sahel region.
