Materials Specialist – Meridian in Meridian, Mississippi

This position supports all of Mississippi Power with metering, PPE and AMI materials for work being performed in the field. This position ensures inventory levels are accurate and is responsible for providing PPE materials to PPE lab so that the operational needs of external customers can be met at a low cost and efficient manner. This position is also responsible for the invoicing that is to be paid by Metering Services. This position is responsible for supporting safety and environmental programs that create a culture embracing Safety First.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills )

  • Knowledge of warehousing concepts, practices, inventory management techniques and procedures.

  • Excellent analytical / computer skills with the ability to master the use of the integrated systems required to optimize their use in serving the customer. Examples, MAXIMO, TRACK, Watt-Net+, Oracle HCM, Microsoft Office (Word, Access, Excel) with the skills to quickly migrate to new systems as the need arises.

  • Readily available at all times during storms for logistics or field jobs as needed.

  • Self-Directed with limited supervision

  • Possesses strong organizational skills.

  • Effective written/verbal communication skills to deal effectively with Metering, PPE Lab, Division, Supply Chain, and vendor personnel.

  • Excellent time management and project management skills.

  • Experience in forklift and warehouse operations is preferred.

  • High School Diploma required.

  • Ability to lift, push, and pull heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.).

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Specify major duties performed by the job and % of time spent on duties.

  • Directs daily warehouse operations associated with Metering and PPE Lab material activities and manages the daily issues and receipts and shipment of stock and non-stock material.

  • Creating purchase orders for materials or services needed in Metering Services and PPE lab.

  • Responsible for Inventory Management decisions daily. (Turnover/total inventory levels/variance reconciliation/analyze and evaluate material requirements, availability, and stocking levels)

  • Coding of Invoices for Metering Services / PPE lab and send to managers for approval.

  • Coordinates and conducts monthly inventory Cycle Count for SCM warehouse.

  • Maintain inventory issue and return documents with correct Maximo numbers.

  • Checking new meters and transformers for correct number assignments and receive for Meter Mechanic acceptance testing.
