Position description
The GEI is seeking a highly motivated, well-organized Fundraising Short Term Consultant to provide support to the team in resource mobilization with a range of existing and prospective donors. The position will be based in Brussels, Belgium and will report to the GEI Program Manager.
DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
The GEI raises funds for its grant program primarily through direct solicitation. GEI management has decided to expand the grant program, and to reinforce the organization’s capacity in fundraising by hiring a fundraising short-term consultant. For this purpose, GEI seeks a passionate fundraiser who has well-rounded and proven fundraising skills and major gift solicitation experience. The initial term of for this position is 50 (fifty) days and can be extended to 150 (hundred and fifty) days per fiscal year. Extensions are subject to Program Manager’s approval, business needs, and upon satisfactory agreement between the parties.
KEY TASKS
The successful candidate will:
- Lead the development of new fundraising activities and develop new income sources by researching and identifying potential donors and opportunities, mining existing databases, and strengthening relationships with existing donors;
- Identify strategic position of potential donors and tailor GEI value proposition to meet their priorities. Monitor donor websites and identify donor opportunities that fit the mission of GEI;
- Prepare briefing packages and material for World Bank senior leaders meeting donors;
- Enhance GEI image by being active and visible in the WBG and donor community, and by working closely with other professional, civic and private organizations;
- Maintain and establish relationships with organizations that may strategically enhance GEI Mission;
- Act as an “ambassador” for GEI, in communicating our mission and long-range goals to donors during fundraising campaigns and events;
- Achieve and exceed fundraising targets of the organization, in agreement with the GEI Program Manager.
Qualifications
- Advanced degree (MA, MBA or equivalent) in international development, social sciences, or similar subject matters;
- A minimum of ten years of experience in fundraising, ideally in a leadership capacity, with public and private donors;
- Experience in operating within a larger organization that has access to major donors from multilateral organizations and private foundations;
- Experience organizing fundraising campaigns, events, and annual campaigns;
- Experience in establishing and maintaining donor relations and other funding tools;
- Adept at developing relationships with a variety of external stakeholders and have an entrepreneurial personality;
- Communications skills (oral and written), networking and interpersonal skills to persuasively convey GEI strategy to potential donors;
- Show pattern of increased responsibility in fundraising;
- Strong knowledge of effective management practices through experience in taking new programs from ideation to approval and ultimately through implementation;
- Openness to new ideas and a multi-cultural working environment. Creative, problem-solver.
