GCA’s strategy in Africa is implemented under the flagship Africa Adaptation Acceleration Program (AAAP), launched by GCA and the African Development Bank (AfDB) to scale up adaptation efforts and mobilize finance for climate-resilient development in Africa. To date, GCA has integrated adaptation solutions into $9 billion worth of investments funded by IFIs across Africa. GCA’s work under the AAAP focuses on four pillars where investments in adaptation and resilience building can yield high economic dividends for African nations, including: Food security; Infrastructure and Nature-based Solutions; Youth entrepreneurship and adaptation jobs; and Adaptation finance.
This role provides wide exposure to various topics and expertise, making it an excellent opportunity for junior staff aiming for transitioning to a professional setting. The position offers hands-on experience in climate adaptation and resilience strategies, operational and administrative support, and monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL), contributing significantly to career development.
Profile
The Junior Support Officer will assist the R4I team in developing actionable research and tools to facilitate climate adaptation and resilience strategies. This entry-level position supports the research and implementation of climate adaptation initiatives, assists the R4I manager with workflow management and operations, and contributes to Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) activities.
Responsibilities:
Project and Program Operations:
- Assist with the logistics and administrative aspects of project implementation, including but not limited to: coordinating meetings and events; managing document workflows; supporting internal and external communications; and handling the filing and retrieval of project documents, both electronic and paper, to maintain an organized system.
- Provide administrative and operational support to the R4I manager.
- Help draft reports, briefing papers, and presentations that summarize research findings and project progress.
- Contribute to the production of visual aids such as charts, maps, and info-graphics for enhancing the accessibility of information.
- Prepare materials and documentation needed for workshops, meetings, and other stakeholder engagements.
- Assist in maintaining communications with project partners and stakeholders to ensure alignment and collaborative progress.
- Support the collection and analysis of data related to climate vulnerabilities and adaptation strategies.
- Help maintain databases and manage data entry processes to ensure accurate and timely information storage.
- Assist the MEL expert in the development and implementation of MEL activities.
- Help compile and analyze monitoring data and contribute to the preparation of evaluation reports.
- Participate in the preparation and organization of training and capacity-building activities.
- Support the development of training materials and other educational resources.
