About usThe UCL Cancer Institute is the hub for cancer research at University College London, one of the World’s leading universities. The Institute draws together over 400 talented scientists who are working together to translate research discoveries into developing kinder, more effective therapies for cancer patients. In particular, it fosters links between basic cancer researchers across Biomedicine and with the clinical activities of our four partner hospital trusts, known as UCL Partners (University College London Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Trust, the Royal Free Hampstead NHS Trust, and Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust), as well as the London School of Pharmacy and Cancer Research UK. The Institute has greater clinical links than any comparable centre in the UK, creating a unique opportunity for significant impact on the delivery of clinical service to cancer patients.Based within UCL Cancer Institute, Professor Gerhardt Attard leads a multi-disciplinary team investigating how prostate cancer develops and progresses from an early localized stage to an advanced metastatic (and often lethal) disease ( ). The group is part of several national and international consortiums, including the STAMPEDE trail ( ), ReIMAGINE ( ), PEACE (https://classic.clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT03004755), STRATOSPHERE ( ).As part of these collaborations, we have assembled well-annotated large data-sets (in excess of 3000 prostate cancer patients) with linked high-quality clinical outcomes collected prospectively in multi-centre clinical trials. These include digital pathology (digitised H&E images), next-generation sequencing, multiplex immunofluorescence etc. Additionally, within the UCL Cancer Institute there is access to cutting-edge single cell sequencing and spatial transcriptomics platforms such as Nanostring CosMx and 10X Visium that can generate highly granular data to integrate with multi-dimensional information.This offers an opportunity for a motivated researcher with experience in analysis of complex data-sets to build a research program exploiting this resource.About the roleWe are seeking a highly talented and self-motivated Career Development Fellow who will initially be based with the Attard Lab within the UCL Cancer Institute. It is expected that over the course of the fellowship, the Fellow will secure independent funding and transition to lead a research group within the UCL CI.The role is ideally suited for an independent researcher with previous experience or the aptitude to quickly become proficient with analysis of large and complex data sets that will have an impact on patient care in the medium to long-term.Applications should include a CV and a Cover Letter: In the Cover Letter please evidence the essential and desirable criteria in the Person Specification part of the Job Description. Moreover they will contribute to and lead the writing of scientific publications and grants.Applicants should have a PhD (or equivalent experience) and 5+ years’ experience at the post-doctoral level. Previous experience in the analysis of prostate cancer patients data is desirable. Excellent programming and scripting skills (e.g. in Python, R, etc). as well as a solid foundation in statistics are required.
