Are you a barrister in private practice looking for a role that provides you with the opportunity to bring your professional expertise of contemporary practice into our programmes to inform the delivery of exceptional teaching whilst continuing in part time practice at the bar or as a fee paid judge?About the roleFurther information is available in theWorking as part of multi-disciplinary teams, you will be responsible for contributing to an exceptional student experience through the delivery of teaching, practice, knowledge exchange, scholarship and business and enterprise engagement activity. We are looking to recruit barristers who are and intend to remain in private practice and/or to continue as fee paid judges on 0.6 FTE contracts (i.e. either to work for us three days per week or to work for us an agreed number of weeks per year) and remain in part time private practice during the remaining days or during the weeks when not working for us. The intention is to recruit staff whose professional practice activity will remain current and inform our practice related teaching, particularly for our Bar students.About the teamNorthumbria Law School is one of the largest law schools in the UK. It ranked fifth for staff returned to REF2021 and 7th when measured by research power. Its wide-ranging research interests are focussed around three research groupings: Northumbria Centre for Evidence and Criminal Justice Studies; Law in Emerging Contexts: Space, Global Sustainable Futures; and Technology and Law and Society. It delivers a wide range of academic and professional UG and PGT programmes, including several bar course routes, and has a vibrant PGR community. Its long-term record for innovation and excellence in legal education is exemplified by its multi award winning Student Law office.About youApplicants must be members of the English and Welsh Bar with a current practising certificate. They must be able to demonstrate contemporary expert specialist knowledge and subject expertise within the relevant discipline/practice areas ensuring that the curriculum reflects the latest developments within practice.Experience of designing, delivering, assessing, and evaluating high quality teaching and learning practice (not necessarily in a University setting but otherwise demonstrating ability to manage learning environments in other contexts) as well as evidence of your contributions to the development of contemporary practice are essential.You will be able to commence duties at Northumbria Law School from September 2024.Further information is available in theIf you would like an informal discussion about the role, please contactWe welcome applications from the UK and across the world.
