Provides H&S direction and support to corporate change initiatives to ensure regulatory compliance is achieved and safety performance is improved.   • Provides advice and guidance to field H&S officers, stakeholders and national policy owners in the interpretation, application and administration of the Canada Labour Code, H&S standards and specifications in accordance with Federal regulations, legislation and corporate policies.
  • Assesses, monitors and evaluates safety policies, programs and procedures for compliance and improvement opportunities. Identifies trends, performance indicators and strategies for improvement.
  • Supports clients in planning and developing safety strategies to address facility, process and equipment changes. Assesses, observes and analyze facilities, equipment practices, work methods and safety behaviours. Recommends corrective and preventative actions and develops supportive programs as required.
  • Develops strategies with clients to resolve contentious issues and complex problems, in many instances requiring collaboration with local joint health and safety committees (LJHSC), unions, HRBPs, labour relations, regulators and other internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provides technical safety subject matter expertise to field H&S officers and their clients in areas such as ergonomics, industrial hygiene, violence prevention, workplace occupancy, equipment safety, and root-cause investigations.

  • Provides subject matter expertise on safety and health training, awareness and prevention.
  • Represents Health & Safety at various meetings, joint union/management committees, projects, external partners (federal, provincial regulators, Group of Companies, etc.) and other work groups as required.
  • Maintains and develops effective relationships with key internal stakeholders to ensure systems, policies and programs are understood, relevant, effective and well implemented.
  • Maintains and develops effective relationships with external stakeholders such as professionals in the field of health and safety to remain current on trends, developments, programs and practices, to exchange information and to contribute to the existing body of knowledge.

QualificationsEducation

  • Completed post-secondary, preferably in a related field OR a combination of equivalent professional experience and training

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years’ of relevant experience as field OHS practitioner
  • 1 to 3 years’ of relevant experience in equipment safety and/or construction site safety
  • Experience with ISO 45001: Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems (formally OHSAS 18001)
  • Experience in a unionized environment an asset

Other Candidate Requirements

  • Proficient computer skills and competent with Microsoft Office programs
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional an asset
  • Strong communication, analytical, and customer service skills
