Job description

To ensure that the policies and procedures of awarding bodies and, as appropriate, the GBS quality assurance policies and procedures are fully and consistently implemented across all GBS campuses and programmes of study.To develop and write quality reports both internally for GBS and for GBS partner organisations and other external agencies. To contribute to preparations for degree awarding powers.

  • To ensure that GBS policies and procedures are kept up to date and consistently implemented across all higher education provision and GBS campuses.
  • To ensure that the regulations, policies, procedures and systems of partner awarding bodies are fully and consistently implemented across programmes delivered by GBS.
  • To work with the Director of Academic Standards and Quality in preparing GBS for applying to the OfS for degree awarding powers (DAPs).
  • To contribute to the development, maintenance, review and updating of GBS’ quality assurance policies and procedures.
  • To write high quality analytic and evaluative reports using quantitative and qualitative data for internal and external audiences, as required.
  • To ensure quality assurance and enhancement at GBS supports a cycle of continuous improvement, leading the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of enhancements.
  • To lead on the programme approval, accreditation, annual monitoring, and review activity within a defined portfolio.
  • To co-ordinate and undertake internal quality audit tasks as appropriate to the needs of GBS and demands of awarding bodies/partner organisations.
  • To co-ordinate and manage academic misconduct, complaints and academic appeals processes, ensuring timely responses and satisfactory outcomes.
  • To act as secretary, as required, supporting GBS academic and corporate governance boards and committees including, for example, Academic Board, Academic Standards and Quality Committee, Learning and Teaching Committee and Programme Committee(s).
  • To liaise, as appropriate and required, with GBS partner institutions and other external organisations in relation to quality assurance and quality enhancement.
  • Take on special projects as required and related to the role of Academic Quality Manager.
  • To work efficiently, accurately and with attention to detail, to meet stated deadlines.
  • To liaise with senior staff such as the Academic Registrar, Deans, Associate Deans, Cohort and Level Leaders, teaching staff and administrative staff, as appropriate, to work related to the role of the Academic Quality Manager.
  • To maintain sector knowledge and skills relating to HE academic development and delivery.
  • To maintain professional development as a QAE practitioner.
  • The Academic Quality Manager may be asked to provide written and verbal reports to the Director and Associate Director of Academic Standards and Quality, the Provost, the Chief Executive Officer, Deans, and other senior staff at GBS.
  • The Academic Quality Manager reports directly to the Director of Academic Standards and Quality. Tasks may also be assigned by the Associate Director of Academic Standards and Quality from time to time.
  • Excellent understanding of quality assurance and quality enhancement, and external requirements of quality reviews, including the QAA.
  • Understanding of requirements for degree awarding powers
  • Excellent written skills with extensive experience of report writing.
  • Ability to compile, analyse and evaluate qualitative and quantitative data to incorporate into reports.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work to challenging deadlines and deliver set objectives.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Willing to travel to GBS campuses.
