SRG are delighted to be partnered with an exciting new biotechnology organisation based here in Scotland and with established industry backing.They are currently at a key stage in the business’s growth and have obtained new lab space near Edinburgh. We are looking to help them recruit a Senior Formulation/R&D Lead for a fantastic new role. This is a brilliant opportunity to join a company at a significant time for the company and help drive the business forward.Some hybrid working is available but you must be able to work on site in Edinburgh for the majority of the week.The Role:As part of the organisation’s future strategy, they need to design formulation prototypes based on thorough format design principles to deliver robust product offerings for a range of end-user applications. The company are building new formulation principles for their technology with the stability, bioavailability and end performance benefits in mind. New innovations in formulation science, based on experimental design, with latest state of art knowledge in colloid, analytical and measurement science are key to maximise this technology as a platform.This is a key role in the R&D team that will lead and shape the future R&D capability and deliver the formulation data that will enable both the business relationships and R&D partnerships.You will join a small multi-disciplinary team of researchers responsible for designing and developing new technologies for winning innovations for the organisation’s bio product portfolio. You will have the opportunity to build, shape, lead and coach the technical team.

  • Scientific and technical leadership in formulation chemistry including the design, synthesis and applications of the organisation’s unique technology.
  • Delivery of formulation innovations and prototypes according to support the commercial team and the business priorities for products that ‘delight’ our partnerships and deliver the target application benefits.
  • To build and leverage your external network, nurturing science-to-business and business-to-business relationships and multi-partner collaborations.
  • To manage a network of internal and external stakeholders including specialist CROs and Labs, and to lead a project team of multidisciplinary scientists in order to deliver successful technical innovation.
  • Close working with our academic and new supplier partnerships.
  • Establish and deliver new projects and programmes both for short and longer term enhancement of technology readiness.
  • To develop and train fellow scientists in formulation and product prototyping with latest in chemistry, product design principles, tools and techniques. Build the science leadership of formulation and colloid science capability with the supporting deliver of robust analytical and measurement data.
  • To be part of the R&D Strategic Advisory Team alongside academics, KOLs and our CTO

Requirements:

  • A PhD in formulation science / renewable / green chemistry or a related discipline
  • An established track record of scientific and technical innovation
  • Hold leading edge expertise in formulation design and delivering product prototypes
  • Prior experience developing bio-based and renewable technologies, including formulation product design and the development of structure-function design rules
  • You will be experienced in a range of relevant analytical and measurement skills, (e.g. including GPC/SEC, NMR, FT-IR, UV, MALDI, MS.)
  • You will have prior experience working closely with commercial and external partners as well as prospective clients and collaborators
  • Able to hold high level technical conversations with people at all levels both internally and externally
  • You will be passionate about the environment and finding new ways to tackle societal challenge and be able to bring new ideas to the table
  • Prior leadership skills and experience
  • Able to drive team performance and strive for excellence
