Permanent on successful completion of a one-year probationary periodThe Department of Earth Sciences Research Facilitator role is to support Earth Sciences research at Oxford. The Facilitator will interact closely with academics, other researchers, and finance and HR staffs, and must be able to keep abreast with the broad range of the research in earth sciences and available or likely funding opportunities.The post holder will seek out funding from all relevant funding bodies, including research councils, industry, charities, the EU and novel/creative sources. They will provide strategic guidance on potential avenues for research at individual researcher and departmental level taking care to ensure complementary long-term objectives. They will also provide expert information and guidance to Faculty and researchers through detailed reports, briefings and presentations, and advise applicants during proposal writing to ensure that funding applications have the highest possible chance of success. The postholder will assist the HoD in coordinating and preparing appropriately detailed strategic research submissions for the department (REF, departmental review) and liaise closely with HR, Finance and SRF Managers to ensure an integrated approach to award management and a smooth transition from pre-award to post-award.About youYou will hold a PhD, or equivalent experience, in Earth Sciences or a cognate discipline.You will have a demonstrated awareness of the multiple funding bodies and schemes that are available to fund research within the Earth and Planetary Sciences, and a proven track record in, and the ability to, communicate effectively with researchers, funding bodies, and to promote Oxford’s Earth Science research to a wider audience. You will also understand how grant proposals are constructed and crafted, and the associated budgetary principles. This will require a high degree of numeracy and being comfortable with dealing with financial matters.For further details of the role please see the job description.
