Trainee x3 – Nature Restoration / Reserves Management

Surrey Wildlife Trust

Nature Restoration Trainee x 3

Are you keen to develop your practical conservation skills and gain experience working
in the conservation sector? This trainee role could be for you!

Salary: National Living Wage, currently £11.44 per hour (FTE £20,821) subject to increases in
line with Government changes.

Contract type: Trainee 12 months / Working hours: Part time – 4 days per week

Location: Pond Farm, Wisley Common, Byfleet, Surrey, GU23 6QS

We are thrilled that we are able to provide an exciting, new trainee scheme lasting one year
for three individuals. The trainee scheme will provide the opportunity to work within our
Reserves Management team and gain a diverse range of practical training in conservation
management, including calcareous grassland management, heathland management and conservation
grazing, whilst obtaining many more transferable skills.

The role will involve largely working outdoors, so no two days will be the same. The role is
for 4 days a week and you will be offered the opportunity to develop your own interests and
work with a range of different teams, including Education, Research & Monitoring, and
Nature Based Solutions.

The trainee scheme will provide the chance to lead groups of practical conservation volunteers
and be part of a team that truly cares about the environment. You would get the opportunity to
undertake a selection of funded external and internal training, including First Aid,
Brushcutter and NPTC Chainsaw courses (or suitable equivalents if you already have these
qualifications).

You must have some previous experience of successfully working with volunteers and the ability
to inspire others about nature conservation. You must also have an understanding of the skills
required in countryside and habitat management. We are looking for passionate individuals who
are seeking that first step into their career in conservation.

Please note, a driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential as our locations cannot all
be easily accessed by public transport.

We are committed to having an inclusive and diverse workplace and encourage applications from
backgrounds which may be underrepresented in our sector. We aim to offer an interview to all
candidates that meet the essential criteria for the post. Please let us know if you require any
adjustment to make our recruitment process more accessible; recruitment will be in person and
will include undertaking practical tasks.

Please apply using the application form on our website and send to Samantha Salt at [email protected] by Monday 5th
August. Interviews will be held on the week commencing 19th August 2024.
