Job title:

Research Fellow in Hyperuniform Disordered Metasurfaces for Selective Absorbers

University of Surrey

Job description

033324The University of Surrey is a global community of ideas and people, dedicated to life-changing education and research. We are ambitious and have a bold vision of what we want to achieve – shaping ourselves into one of the best universities in the world, which we are achieving through the talents and endeavour of every employee. Our culture empowers people to achieve this aim and to collectively, and individually, make a real difference. The roleApplications are invited for a Post Doctoral Research Fellow 3-year fixed term position to participate in the EPSRC-funded project “HyMeta: Hyperuniform Disordered Metasurfaces for Selective Absorbers”, starting on 2nd September 2024. This project will develop hyperuniform disordered metasurfaces, a novel class of photonic structures in which structural correlations are accurately controlled with the aim of achieving an ultimate control over the absorption of solar radiation and emission of thermal radiation to create highly efficient frequency-selective solar-thermal absorbing materials. The post holder will conduct theoretical and computational research in the area of nanophotonics, condensed matter and/or quantum optics and is expected to collaborate closely with the academic and industrial partners (find out more about the project ). The focus of the research activities is on fundamental and applied aspects of frequency-selective solar-thermal absorbers built on hyperuniform disordered platforms and employing metal-dielectric-metal resonators; this will include derivation of theoretical and computational models for light-matter interaction and photon transport in disordered hyperuniform plasmonic structures; generalised machine-learning design and optimisation frameworks for hyperuniform disordered metasurfaces and metal-dielectric-metal resonators.About youThe successful candidate should hold a PhD in Physics or a related field (gained or near completion) with a strong research track record. Background in nanophotonics, disordered photonics, machine learning techniques and past experience in collaborating with experimental groups and industrial partners is an advantage. How to applyPlease attach your CV and complete the few questions on the application form when you apply online.
