What’s new with AptarWe have an exciting position open at Nanopharm, which is an Aptar Pharma Company: Laboratory Technician, reporting to our Laboratory Supervisor. These positions will be based in Cwmbran and will involve conducting pharmaceutical product analysis for our customers to a high degree of precision and efficiency.This is how your journey begins:Role OverviewThe main responsibilities of the role are to review and maintain:

  • All glassware (cleaning and replenishing stock)
  • Stock of consumables (including, e.g., pipettes PPEs)
  • Organization and storage of all chemical’s substances in according to safety instructions, updating stock list and replenishing where needed
  • Laboratory waste disposal (proper designation of waste e.g., chlorinated and non-chlorinated)
  • Equipment calibration
  • All laboratory logbooks and making sure they are filled in correctly.
  • Booking columns and standards (API, excipients, degradation products)
  • Practice safe work habits, including complying with all safety, health, and environmental rules and regulations.

Job Details / ResponsibilitiesJob descriptions cover approximately 85% of a role, and are not an exhaustive list of responsibilities and duties. You are expected to carry out other activities that are within reasonable scope of the role.Basics

  • Promote Nanopharm & Aptar’s best interests at all times by the positive and effective manner in which you perform your duties
  • Complete timesheets, expenses claims and appraisals in a timely manner as specified by Stakeholders
  • Maintain an up to date training record and submit to your line manager at least every 6 months for review, making updates and amendments as necessary
  • Read and Understand all assigned SOPs via the EQMS system in the timeframe specified
  • Ensure confidential information pertaining to the company is not divulged to 3rd parties with appropriate legal framework or permission
  • Use of IT equipment (e.g. phones, laptops, etc.) is in line with the appropriate Aptar policies

People

  • To inspire all departmental team members by personal example and good work ethic, ensuring alignment to the work being conducted to the values, vision and core strategy.
  • Clearly communicate and update senior members of the team on the status of ongoing tasks throughout the day and raise an errors or issues promptly.

Science & Research

  • To work diligently with chemicals and solutions, ensuring correct storage and handling.

Quality & Regulatory Compliance

  • Responsible for ensuring areas of non-compliance are brought to the attention of relevant personnel and/or line manager.
  • Contribute to the authoring of SOPs and Business Operating Procedures (BOPs) as required.
  • Assist in updating equipment cards to reflect equipment qualification status.
  • Ensure periodic reviews are conducted in a timely manner and are not delayed.
  • Ensure your training record is up to date and complete at all times (audit ready).

Continuous Improvement

  • Actively participate in continuous improvement activities as required to drive forward business improvements.
  • Take ownership for own training and development, highlighting to management where you feel further training is required.

Health Safety & the Environment

  • Work closely with the Health & Safety team to facilitate a safe laboratory.
  • Practice safe work habits, including complying with all safety, health, and environmental rules and regulations.
  • Organizing the laboratory and keeping the benches clean and clear of consumables and chemicals.
  • Ensure correct use of PPE at all times acting as a role model for exemplary HSE compliance for all laboratory users/visitors.
  • Ensuring that generated waste is properly disposed of and managed. Irresponsible disposal into the environment must be avoided.
  • Ensure any accidents are logged correctly and promptly in line with the internal reporting procedures.
  • Ensure any improvements in safety are adopted quickly and correctly.

Operations co-ordination

  • Organising and conducting replenishment of consumables, solvents, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Organising and conducting daily checks and verifications on critical equipment’s functionality (balances, humidity chambers, fridges/freezers, etc.)
  • Organising calibration, preventative/reactive maintenance on equipment.
  • Supporting the Laboratory Supervisor with the replacement/upgrade of laboratory equipment, including:
  • Evaluating options to present to stakeholders/Site Leadership Team.
  • Sourcing and procurement.
  • Installation and associated qualifications (if required).
  • Routine maintenance/calibration schedule.

Systems and Processes

  • Ensure issues with IT systems are logged with a ticket promptly and raise to senior members of the team. Do not allow issues to continue without resolution.

Capabilities & technology

  • Ensure excellent levels of housekeeping to ensure standards are maintained after the scientists have completed laboratory work.
  • Ensure issues, problems or improvements with the use of the facilities is communicated to senior members of the team promptly.

What you will bring on the journey

  • A first degree in a science, pharmacy or relevant disciple 2.1 or above could be advantageous

Experience:

  • Previous experience of working in a lab based environment (can be previous work or academic experience)
  • Awareness of regulatory requirements e.g. Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH), Good Laboratory Practice (GLP)
  • Detail orientated person and highly organised.
  • Confident working in a team and using own initiative.
  • Proven flexibility in adjusting to a rapidly evolving workload and remaining calm under pressure.
  • Displays adherence to and promotion of the company values at all times.
  • Takes ownership for own personal development.

Ability to travel: occasional travel for training, inter-site support and customer/3rd party assistance. Travel to split site may also be required for training purposes.Other requirements:
