As part of this role you will work closely our project partners UP – The Adult Cerebral Palsy Movement (https://upmovement.org.uk/) and spend time based at UCLH and in the North Central London area where we will pilot the link worker scheme.The role involves interviewing adults with cerebral palsy about ageing and their use of community resources, co-designing training materials for a specialised link worker and collecting and analysing data on the effectiveness of the link worker scheme. You will also work closely with expert advisory groups and stakeholders to ensure an impactful project.As part of this role we are committed to helping you develop as an independent researcher in ageing. You will have mentorship from an experienced project team. You will have £2000 to spend on training as you wish. Finally, you will have the opportunity to develop your supervisory skills by supervising the project research assistants.The position is available starting October 2024 at the University of Surrey, Guildford, UK, under the supervision of Dr Kimberley Smith.About youA PhD in psychology, gerontology, disability studies or health sciences is desirable, though we would consider other relevant backgrounds. We actively encourage applications from candidates who are from under-represented groups (e.g., living with a disability or long-term condition) and will consider a job share for people who would prefer to work part-time. We are looking for someone with:

  • Previous experience in research on older age and/or disability and a strong interest in these topics
  • The desire to be a future research leader in ageing and disability
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • The ability to work collaboratively with people from a range of backgrounds
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills
  • The ability to work independently
  • Experience in qualitative and quantitative research
  • Willingness to travel to and work in the North London area
