Faculty of Health and Life SciencesThis new full-time post is immediately available until 31 May 2027 on a fixed term basis.We welcome applications from candidates interested in working part-time hours or job-sharing arrangements.This role may be subject to additional background screening.The postThe Faculty wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Associate to support the work of Dr Khushboo Borah Slater and Stephen Michell in pathogen microbiology. This part Dstl funded post is immediately available until 31st May 2027. The successful applicant will undertake research to better understand the fundamental biology of hazard group 3 bacteria in relation to infection control.The post will include:

  • Working in containment level 3 laboratories with hazard group 3 bacterial pathogens
  • Contributing to writing of scientific reports to Dstl
  • Mentoring of PhD students when required
  • Continued Professional Development towards working practices at containment level 3

About youThe successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and reports to external bodies.Applicants will possess a relevant PhD or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes. Applicants will be able to demonstrate an ability to work at containment level 3 and have a good understanding of an array of virulence strategies employed by pathogenic bacteria.Applicants must be a UK national, which is a funding requirement of this post.Please ensure you read the Job Description and Person Specification for full details of this role by clicking on the attachment.What we can offer you
