  • TÜV SÜD is an international provider of testing, inspection and certification (TIC) services, as well as technical advisory and R&D. We deliver to customers from a range of industries including Renewable & Sustainable Energy, Oil & Gas, Water and Government.
  • Over the last four years we have developed significant capability in the hydrogen and CCUS sectors and have more recently started offering a range of services related to sustainability and renewable energy. These four service lines fall under our Green Energy and Sustainability business area. We are now looking to grow our sustainability services team further, with a particular focus upon life cycle assessment, product and corporate carbon footprint and environmental product declarations.
  • This opportunity will see you working within our existing Sustainability Services team here in the UK, but on occasion with teams from across the wider TÜV SÜD group, to undertake a range of customer projects related to sustainability, including calculation of corporate and product carbon footprints or their verification against international standards, life cycle assessments, energy audits, environmental product declarations, low carbon hydrogen certification and sustainability audits. Part of what makes this role so exciting is the variety and breadth of the work, for a range of different clients from micro-SMEs to large multinational corporations.
  • You will require a qualification related to sustainability, with demonstrable experience of conducting life cycle assessments and calculation of carbon footprints across a variety of real-world settings. You’ll need a broad range of interpersonal skills as the role will include the development of internal and external relationships, helping to win and execute commercial work and support the development of new business areas. As the business expands, there will be significant scope for personal learning, development and growth.
  • The role will report to the Head of Sustainability Services, and can be primarily home or office based, or with a hybrid working pattern, but will require periodic attendance at our East Kilbride and Fareham offices, and travel for business to visit customers and events (total travel time

Your Qualifications

  • Essential requirements for the candidate:
  • A good first degree (2:1 or 1st) in Environmental Science, science or related field
  • An experienced professional with a strong track record of Product Carbon Footprint and Life Cycle Assessment related projects either in a climate-related consulting position or an in-house sustainability role, including roles as a project leader or verifier
  • LCA experience including creating and critically reviewing LCAs to ISO 14044, ISO 14040 and relevant Product Category Rules
  • Knowledge and previous use of standards and frameworks that relate to the carbon footprinting of products (e.g., ISO 14067, PAS 2050, GHG Protocol, PACT) and EPDs (e.g., ISO 14025, ISO 21930, EN 15804)
  • Previously performed assurance of product carbon footprint statements as per ISO 14064-3 and the GHG Protocol
  • Strong working knowledge of LCA software such as GaBi, OpenLCA or SimaPro
  • Be genuinely enthusiastic about and committed to sustainability and the drive to net-zero
  • Be happy working in a distributed, multi-disciplinary team environment
  • Be self-motivated and able to learn independently
  • Have an excellent command of written and spoken English, excellent communication skills, and attention to detail
  • Proficient in the use of the Microsoft office suite of applications
  • Advantageous requirements for the candidate:
  • • A higher degree (MSc or PhD) in an Environmental Science or related field
  • • Knowledge of relevant documentary standards, regulation and legislation related to sustainability and the energy sector more generally
  • • A good knowledge of existing energy systems and the proposed Energy Transition to decarbonised energy systems, including hydrogen and CCUS
  • • Full UK driving license or license that allows driving on UK roads
