Company
University of Exeter
Job description
Project description:The MRC Centre for Medical Mycology (CMM) at the University of Exeter conducts world-leading research of growing importance, globally and locally. CMM provides an exciting programme of public engagement activities. This PhD opportunity will strengthen patient and public involvement (PPI) in this field.PPI means that members of the public or patients work with scientists to design and govern research. The aim of this studentship is to explore how PPI can be developed in medical mycology and identify ways of promoting and supporting its use.The project will involve interviewing scientists and lay people about their views on PPI and medical mycology. A literature review will also be conducted. Data collection and analysis will be informed by the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR), a structured framework used to identify barriers and facilitators to the implementation of new ways of working. Findings from the interviews and review will be used to identify strategies that can underpin an approach to design, refine, and evaluate PPI in medical mycology.Training in qualitative research methods, mycology and microbiology (at a level of understanding rather than practising), and methods and theories of PPI will be offered. The student will be based jointly at the University’s MRC Centre for Medical Mycology (CMM) and the Engaged Health Research Group at the University of Exeter.
