Gender and Protection specialist

Main Duty Station and Location:

Remote – with possible traveling to port Sudan when needed

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director/program Manager,d GBV Programme officer will undertake the following tasks:

Gender Mainstreaming

  • Review relevant UPO documents and requirements for gender mainstreaming, including UPO’s Policy on Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women.
  • Conduct quarterly gender analysis.
  • Develop a regular plan of action that identifies opportunities and entry points for mainstreaming gender into UPO’s internal policies, operations and projects.
  • Develop training material on gender in development and humanitarian settings.
  • Conduct gender training to all UPO’s Staff.
  • Produce regular briefs, Reports and recommendations on Gender status in UPO.

Project management and implementation

  • Lead the planning and management of UPO health/nutrition and GBV/RH programs
  • Provide support to and oversee the implementation of project activities with the Program Department.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the development, implementation, and monitoring of the project work plan, including budget and results framework.
  • Support and coordinate delivery of the day-to-day project activities to ensure prompt and adequate delivery of results.
  • Support monitoring of budget implementation and programme activity expenditures and perform budget revisions when required and provide inputs to financial reports.
  • Support the development of knowledge products that serve for the prevention and response to GBV and SEA.
  • Ensure gender responsive humanitarian and crisis planning, frameworks and enhance close collaboration with partners.
  • Any other duties as directed by UPO Management.

Networking, Advocacy, Partnership building and coordination

  • Establish connection with regional and national and global bodies on issues related to Health, GBG, Nutrition etc
  • Initiate development of proposals and concept notes for the related sectors.
  • Establish contact with relevant NGO and donors to support UPO activities.
  • Create and maintain partnerships with the local women’s organizations, project consultants, UN Agencies, government institutions, private sector, civil society etc.
  • Prepare relevant documentation such as project summaries, conference papers, briefing notes, speeches, and donor profiles
  • Participate in donor meetings and public information events, as delegated.
  • Represent UPO in the national and global clusters (Health, Nutrition, GBV )
  • Represent UPO in public forums as required

Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting

  • Monitor project activities, results, and indicators using results-based management tools to evaluate implementation progress and adherence to the core humanitarian standards.
  • Produce reports on monitoring missions, project results, outputs, and outcomes
  • Participate in all relevant Results Groups meetings as delegated by the immediate supervisor.
  • Coordinate and support the organization of advocacy activities and campaigns events, training, workshops, and knowledge products.
  • Identify sources and gather and compile data and information for the preparation of documents, guidelines, speeches, and position papers
  • Work with UPO’s Communication team to ensure results, success stories and best practices from the Programs are captured and widely shared.
  • Provide weekly and monthly report to the director
