Legal Officer – Competition Law and Policy

Full-time Contract of 12 Months with Possible Renewal

BEUC, the European Consumer Organisation, is currently looking for a legal officer based in Brussels to reinforce our competition team.

YOUR role

  • Providing intelligence, information and advice to the BEUC secretariat and BEUC member organisations on consumer angles of EU competition law;
  • Supporting the BEUC competition team in their work on files related to the enforcement of Articles 101 and 102 TFEU, merger control across consumer-facing industries and the DMA;
  • Preparing responses to consultations, position papers and technical briefings on these issues and input into cases (interventions in administrative proceedings of the Commission and court cases);
  • Undertaking EU advocacy work in these fields including representing BEUC and its member organisations in external meetings and at conferences;
  • Maintaining and developing contacts with representatives of different EU institutions and relevant stakeholders.

YOUR profile

  • A Master degree in Law, including a specialisation in competition law;
  • At least 3 years of relevant professional experience in EU competition law and policy;
  • Experience in litigation;
  • A proven ability to understand and explain complex legal and economic questions;
  • A demonstrable interest in competition policy, articulating and defending the consumer interest;
  • Excellent written and presentation skills in English are essential; a good knowledge of other European languages is an asset;
  • Very good communication skills;
  • Good knowledge and understanding of consumer policy and legislation is an asset;
  • Experience in co-operating with an EU wide network and/or project management is an asset;
  • Ability to work well with people from diverse backgrounds;
  • Team player, curiosity, autonomy, ability to perform under pressure;
  • Well-organised.

  • A full-time contract with a gross monthly salary in the indicative range of €3,679 to €3,912, depending on experience;
