We are a Left-wing political group in the European Parliament fighting for workers, climate action, feminism, peace & human rights. We seek to recruit a press officer.

ABOUT THE ROLES

The successful candidate will contribute to the production and dissemination of press and communications content across a range of policy areas.

They will be able to convert political positions into clear messages, raising awareness of our core issues – workers’ rights, climate justice, feminism, peace, and human rights – among international media and the public.

They will work with MEPs, policy advisers, and the rest of the communications team to disseminate our messages to the media and public on EU policy.

They will be able to deliver effective planning and organisation of all facets of communications outreach.

They will have a strong grasp of EU politics, and the diverse tactics needed to ensure effective communications on behalf of our MEPs and issues.

TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop creative and targeted strategies to promote the Group’s positions;
  • Recognise media and communications opportunities and act to increase impact;
  • Organise, promote, and ensure successful press conferences and briefings;
  • Contribute to, and plan, content for use across various communications channels;
  • Closely follow European Parliamentary work and plenary sessions;
  • Maintain relationships with MEPs and related staff both in Brussels and member states;
  • Lead and provide communications support for events and launches of publications.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential:

  • Political affinity and passion for our political values;
  • Experience working in communications and/or journalism;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Extensive knowledge of EU policy debates;
  • Understanding of key social media platforms for news and current affairs;
  • Enthusiasm for teamwork and positive collaboration with colleagues;
  • Creativity, resourcefulness, and professionalism with a strong work ethic;
  • Ability to work under pressure;
  • High linguistic level in English & some of the following languages – French, German, Italian, Spanish;
  • Ability to work occasionally at weekends and during holidays;
  • Experience in a multicultural, multilingual working environment;
  • Familiarity with European media landscape & Brussels-based media scene;
  • Ability to foster relations with journalists & maintain a network of media contacts.

Desirable:

  • Education and training in Journalism, Communications or similar subjects;
  • Familiarity with SEO, Social Media Analytics, and Adobe Creative Suite;
  • Familiarity with audiovisual content production.

PRACTICAL DETAILS

Positions to be filled ideally in November 2024.

The initial contract will be for 1 year, renewable, with a possibility for applying to a Temporary agent position within the group.

You will be based in Brussels with possible regular international travel and occasional work in unusual hours.

The successful candidate will be recruited as Contract agent in Function Group III, step depending on years of experience (Entry gross salary is 3.111,21 euros).

Salary and allowances, under the EU institutions system, depend on experience, country of origin and family situation. We offer extensive and continuous training opportunities for development.

  • are a national of one of the Member States of the Communities, and enjoy their full rights as a citizen;
  • have fulfilled any obligations imposed on them by the laws concerning military service.
