Main Purpose of the Job:

The primary role of the Social Mobilization Officer is to mobilize target communities, strengthen capacity through consistent counselling and training, and actively collect community mobilization data. The focus is particularly on facilitating a comprehensive understanding of and addressing the specific needs related to agro-related activities within the communities.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Community Mobilization:

    • Apply and implement effective strategies for mobilizing target communities.
    • Establish and maintain positive relationships through regular engagement.
  2. Capacity Building:

    • Conduct regular counselling and training sessions to enhance community capacity.
    • Focus on building skills and knowledge related to agro-based activities.
  3. Data Collection:

    • Actively participate in the collection of community mobilization data.
    • Ensure accuracy and reliability of collected data for informed decision-making.
  4. Facilitation and Understanding:

    • Facilitate a broader understanding of agro-related activities within the target communities.
    • Conduct needs assessments to identify and address specific challenges and requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Establish Strong Relationships:

    • Conduct visits to households affected by resettlement, building strong relationships with stakeholders and line departments.
    • Foster a positive rapport with resettled households to enhance community engagement.
  2. Data Collection and Support:

    • Collect reliable and accurate data from households and individuals.
    • Assist households in developing their livelihood transition plans.
    • Verify data provided by households and ensure its accuracy.
  3. Communication and Messaging:

    • Deliver key messages to households, aiding their understanding of livelihood transition processes.
    • Actively participate in all community-related events associated with the project.
  4. Coordination and Collaboration:

    • Maintain effective coordination with relevant governmental stakeholders, local leaders, and community representatives.
    • Facilitate smooth implementation of program activities through collaborative efforts.
  5. Community Engagement:

    • Ensure that beneficiaries and local populations comprehend the goals of the Food Security and Livelihoods Program.
    • Garner support and agreement from the community regarding the implementation process.
  6. Training and Supervision:

    • Provide proper training and supervision to community volunteers and daily workers participating in the project.

Specific Duties:

  1. Project Management:

    • Provide regular updates on the project work plan to the line manager.
    • Ensure timely and high-quality execution of project activities in the assigned area.
  2. Community Engagement:

    • Follow up on and support sensitizations for beneficiaries or community members based on identified needs.
    • Attend regular community meetings in the assigned area to stay informed and connected.
  3. Data Management:

    • Collect, enter, and analyse essential food security data for the program.
    • Extract and compile statistics on livelihood activities, including beneficiary information, cards, assessments, and monitoring, and provide them to the line manager.
  4. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Develop the first draft of success stories and best practices documentation aligned with livelihood activities.
    • Report any community information, problems, or issues to direct and indirect supervisors concerning assigned tasks.
  5. Communication and Collaboration:

    • Participate in internal and external project meetings, sharing meeting minutes as required.
    • Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to ensure effective project implementation.
  6. Adaptability and Additional Tasks:

    • Undertake other related tasks assigned by the line manager to support the overall success of the program.
    • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to evolving project needs and requirements.
  7. Other Duties:

    • Perform any other job related duties assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, Horticulture, Agronomy or Agriculture Extension

• At least 3 – 4 years of progressive work experience in the similar roles in the field of food security and nutrition, livelihoods, agricultural extension, value chain and marketing projects with INGO or Afghan NGOs.

 • Experience in agricultural marketing and business linkages; delivery of field level extension activities; organizing trainings and delivery; and training received in related subjects

• Experience in developing agriculture/horticulture-based training curricula, agriculture value chain, marketing and business development.

• Experience in facilitating agricultural extension methodologies particularly Farmers Field School and Self-help Groups with demonstration of participatory research and technology development following Demonstration farms is preferred.

 • Understanding on research and survey methodologies, designing, and implementing food security and nutrition survey, value chain study and market assessment is required.

 • Good spoken and written skill in English, Pashto and Dari Languages and possess good skills in report writing
