Mission of Japan to the EU

Position description

The Mission of Japan to the EU is looking for a Research Assistant to join the Press and Public Diplomacy Section. The starting date for the position is expected to be from the end of September 2024.

Main Duties:

  • Monitor and make daily news updates on key policy debates in the EU that are relevant to the Mission;
  • Produce social media content and monitoring on X in particular;
  • Draft speeches, letters, and correspondence in English for the Mission when needed;
  • Compile clear, concise and informative reports on meetings and events in Brussels – e.g. think tank events, conferences, press briefings etc.

Other Tasks:

  • Overall support to the Press and Public Diplomacy Section e.g. conducting general administrative tasks, writing/sending letters and emails, managing and maintaining contacts lists etc.;
  • Assist with organisation of events organized by the Mission;
  • Carry out other general administrative tasks as requested.

Qualifications

  • Native level of English;
  • Work experience with a demonstrated ability in research, analysis, and documentation;
  • Experience of managing a website and an organisational social media account;
  • A sound knowledge of the functioning of the European institutions and the decision-making process at EU level would be an asset;
  • Excellent drafting and editing skills with a strong attention to detail;
  • Reading ability in Japanese would be an asset;
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.);
  • Ability to legally work in the EU.
