Main purpose of job:
The British Consulate in São Paulo is recruiting for one FCDO Financial and Professional Services Policy intern to the Brazil Network.
Working for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), the successful candidate will give assistance to policy formation. They will also support the delivery of the Economic and Financial Dialogue (EFD), Financial Market Dialogue (FMD) and G20 and will be required to provide administrative support to the team and to the Head of Financial Services in São Paulo.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a team that encourages diversity and personal development. You will participate in meetings, develop initiatives regarding policy and regulation and undertake research to develop your professional skills and experience to enhance your future career prospects.
There could be the opportunity for the interested candidate to develop specific sector expertise on legal services, sustainable finance, insurance market or capital markets depending on interest.
Roles and responsibilities:
- Analyse, translate, synthesise and share economic data, news, and sector information related to the insurance, banking, fintech, capital markets and climate finance sector;
- Lead on financial services teams inputs to the Trade and Economics newsletter to summarise complex Brazilian financial market information into excellent written English;
- Assist in the preparation of market research reports, briefings;
- Provide administrative support to the team delivering of visit programmes, events, meetings and activities for the office and government visitors;
- Lead on organising travel agendas and logistical arrangements, including booking flights, hotels and vehicles;
- Provide support to the organisation of events such as trade missions, seminars and official visits;
- Accompany senior member of staff to meetings with Brazilian and UK government stakeholders and regulators, both virtually and in person;
- Conduct research, providing support on identifying regulatory and policy issues relating to Financial Services;
- Provide support on promoting the UK’s wider economic and political objectives.
The position will suit an energetic, motivated self-starter with an interest in the sector. The ideal candidate must have the ability to work under pressure both independently and as part of a cohesive team. We also expect strong organisational skills, attention to detail and commitment to the tasks.

- We encourage candidates currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree – in areas such as Economics, International Relations, Administration, Public Policy, Social Sciences or similar subjects;
- Fluent English, with excellent writing and speaking capabilities;
- Fluent Portuguese, with excellent writing and speaking capabilities;
- Strong research, reading comprehension, attention to detail and be a good communicator;
- Team-working skills, open to learning and receiving feedback.
Language requirements:
Language: English; Portuguese.
Level of language required: Fluent.

Must have the legal status to live and work in Brazil.
Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful may be placed on a ‘reserve list’. If during the reserve period of 6-12 months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.
