Description
Public and Media Relations Officer for ESAC, Spain and Portugal, ESA Member States Outreach Office, Outreach Division, Communication Department, Director General’s Services.
Under the direct authority of the Head of ESA Member States Outreach Office, you are responsible for the development and implementation of the Public and Media relations activities as well as Social Media coverage for the ESAC Establishment and across the related Member States Spain and Portugal (ES and PT) in line with the Corporate Communication Policy.
In addition, you coordinate the Agency participation to the European Network of Sciences Centres and Museums (ECSITE) by co-chairing the ECSITE Space Group.
Duties
Your tasks and responsibilities will include:
- Develop and implement the Public Relations activities for ESAC and across ES and PT by:
- coordinating and ensuring, in close cooperation with the relevant Head of Establishment office, outreach activities including organization of establishment visits (public and schools) and events (e.g. ESA Open Days),
- acting as the central point of reference for the Member States Advisory Communication Committee (ACC) representatives of ES and PT, and support adequately the implementation of ESA Days within these Member States,
- carrying out exhibition/events activities across ES and PT, by negotiating all needed arrangements and overseeing the production of needed materials, while ensuring proper communication about these exhibitions is set-up through adequate platforms and forums,
- liaising with the Public and Media Relations Officer for EAC to support astronaut activities related to outreach events in ES and PT.
- Ensure in liaison with the Corporate Media Relations Officer that the Media Relations and newsroom processes are well implemented at ESAC and across ES and PT by:
- developing in close coordination with the relevant Head of Establishment office the media relation activities at ESAC by organizing media events when appropriate,
- implementing the media relation activities related to ES and PT by fostering and managing the space journalist’s community engagement, and facilitating their access to ESA experts and to ESA’s programmes while ensuring the necessary level of message coherence and answering the journalist queries in a timely manner,
- maintaining and updating relevant journalist databases, ESAC spokespersons list, a log-file for all media requests, media insight analysis,
- organizing interviews and briefings for individual journalists as well as preparing, sending, and updating press releases and news releases when appropriate.
- Manage in liaison with the DG and Corporate Social Media Coordination Officer, the digital communication channels targeted towards ESAC and towards ES and PT by:
- elaborating the adequate deployment and social media coverage of Public and Media relations activities through adequate social media channels in the language of the Member States while ensuring corporate message coherence,
- promoting through the ACC representatives of ES and PT the deployment of social media posts via their respective social media channels,
- maintaining adequate ESA digital communication channels such as ESA Web Portal sections dedicated to ESAC, ES and PT,
- liaising with the Internal Communication Office to coordinate internal communication activities related to ESAC through the ESAC intranet.
- Coordinate the Agency participation to the European Network of Sciences Centres and Museums (ECSITE) by co-chairing the ECSITE Space Group and by contributing for ESA to the adequate organization, preparation of the ECSITE Annual Conference, the Space Group Annual Conference and Annual Meeting while ensuring needed participation arrangements and materials on ESA side. As such you closely liaise with the ESA Science Communication and Education Manager to ensure best participation and representation of the ESA Sciences activities.

A master’s degree in a relevant domain is required for this post.
Additional requirements
Planning and organization skills, problem-solving, results-oriented, demonstrated competence in some of the following disciplines: Editorial and writing, Public Relations, Media Relations, Event organisation, Social Media, Logistics.
Proven relationship management and communication skills as well as the capacity to work well under pressure with tight deadlines and the flexibility to adapt to new and unforeseen demands as well as to manage challenging situations proactively.
Experience in Outreach, Event management, Public and Media relations is an asset.
Excellent knowledge of Spanish language is required and in depth knowledge of the Media landscape in Spain and Portugal will be an asset.

Important Information and Disclaimer
In principle, recruitment will be within the advertised grade band (A2-A4). However, if the selected candidate has less than four years of relevant professional experience following the completion of the master’s degree, the position may be filled at A1 level.
During the recruitment process, the Agency may request applicants to undergo selection tests. Additionally, successful candidates will need to undergo basic screening before appointment, which will be conducted by an external background screening service, in compliance with the European Space Agency’s security procedures.
Note that ESA is in the process of transitioning to a Matrix setup, which could lead to organisational changes affecting this position.

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.
