Habitat’s Terwilliger Center for Innovation in Shelter was established to expand access to decent affordable shelter at scale through housing markets. The Terwilliger Center works to expand access to innovative and client-responsive services, products and financing so that households can improve their shelter more effectively and efficiently.

Purpose of consultancy

Habitat’s Terwilliger Center is seeking a consultant to provide communications and marketing support to advance its program strategy and goals in the Philippines and/or Southeast Asia region.

Working with the Terwilliger Center’s communications lead and relevant program leaders, the consultant will develop a communications framework across program areas, to further the impact of the Center’s programs, raise awareness of key initiatives and increased brand recognition.

Responsibilities and deliverables:

  • Media relations support: draft press releases, inviting and managing media participation in events, production of toolkits, monitoring media enquiries. Create and maintain a network of outlet targets and reporters, corresponding to the priority areas of work and cross-cutting themes.
  • Graphic design: design appropriately branded collaterals (e.g. 2-pagers, brochures, slide decks, capacity statements, events branding).
  • Writing and editing: provide copy editing for research and reports, draft content for new materials and thought leadership opportunities (technical blog, op-eds, media pitch) based on program teams’ needs.
  • Content gathering: Identify opportunities for new assets, including photography and storytelling, and work closely with the Terwilliger Center communications lead to collect or guide the collection of such assets.
  • Social media: provide content for X/Twitter and LinkedIn, including accompanying graphics, based on activities and inputs from program teams (e.g. 3/month).
  • Contribute to department communications updates regarding program milestones.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of communication activities and recommend adjustments as necessary.

Contract duration

  • The consultancy runs from contract date through December 31, 2024, with potential extension dependent on performance and budget availability.

Experience and qualifications

  • Proven record and work experience in communications, marketing, advocacy, campaigns, and/or strategic management.
  • Proven experience in media and public relations, such as media campaigns, project management, media strategies.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the media ecosystem and communications best practices within Philippines and Southeast Asia.
  • Proficiency in design software (Adobe Suite, Canva).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Tagalog.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency with digital communication tools and social media platforms.
  • Proficiency in developing and using templates in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
  • Understanding of market systems approaches and experience working with housing programs and the NGO sector is an added advantage.
