Functional Responsibilities

Functional Responsibilities and Deliverables:

In order to ensure that fisheries issues in general, and the outcomes of the Fisheries Refugia Project in particular, are well integrated into the updated TDA and SAP, the SCS-SAP project will recruit a consultant on Fisheries Refugia to assist the lead consultant on TDA and SAP updating (Consultant 5) with the incorporation of fisheries information from the Fisheries Refugia project into the TDA process. 

The consultancy will include the following key tasks:

  • Desk Review of the outcomes of the Fisheries Refugia Project

  • Preliminary identification of transboundary issues related to fisheries refugia (in coordination with the SCS-SAP project team members).

  • Lead national consultations with fisheries stakeholders as part of the TDA process with the aim to obtain national inputs to the TDA related to fisheries refugia and other transboundary issues related to fisheries (e.g. fish migrations)

  • Participate as fisheries expert in the regional consultation on the draft TDA

  • Support the Consultant on TDA and SAP Update to finalise the TDA for SCM approval

Impact of Results The Consultant on Fisheries Regufia for the South China Sea projects  impacts on achievement of project results by  contributing on cross-cuttings aspects of the  the South China Sea project results framework.  This ensures client satisfaction and overall effective delivery of the UNOPS project, as well as contributes to the SDGs and UNOPS purpose.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education

  • Master’s Degree, or equivalent, in Fisheries, Marine Science, or similar is required.

  • First level university degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) with additional two years of experience may be accepted in lieu of an Advanced university degree.

Experience

  • At least five (5) years of experience in fisheries in Southeast Asia is required.

  • Knowledge of, and experience with, coastal and marine issues in a regional seas context, including in the South China Sea is required.

  • Experience of working with the UN system would be an advantage.

  • Experience in google suite applications is desired.

Language requirements

  • Fluency in (written and oral) English is required.
