Main purpose of job:
The Corporate Services Team is responsible for the day to day running of the administration of the British Embassy in Montevideo. We are looking for a dynamic professional to join our team. The Estates Manager is a key member of the CS team and reports directly to the Corporate Services Manager delivering on a wide range of issues including:
- Management of the estate.
- Project management, operations and supplier management.
- Health and Safety compliance.
- Administrative tasks

Roles and responsibilities:
Estates Management:
- Lead and manage estates work, operations, supplier performance, contracts and maintenance.
- Ensure estates activity is in line with the Management Charter and recommendations from regional experts.
- Monitor and forecast estates maintenance budgets and expenditure.
- Update leadership team on estates matters, escalating as required.
- Manage residential and storage inventories.
- Line management of the maintenance assistant
- Advise on routine maintenance plans for all official properties working with the maintenance assistant and regional experts.
- Oversee estates procurement and suppliers to ensure service level agreements are met.
Health and Safety:
- Maintain a safe, compliant and supportive working environment for all staff and diplomatic families.
- Oversee health and safety activity, owning policy, guidance and monitoring standards.
- Act as fire safety manager.
- Carry out risk assessments for works in all properties.
- Lead on sustainability plans to meet global targets.
Technical:
- Plan, manage and oversee estates projects, preventative and reactive maintenance using the forward maintenance register and regional expertise.
- Provide local technical expertise.
Admin & Team Support:
- Management of petty cash and monthly replenishment.
- Support other members of the corporate services team as required.
- Back up purchasing officer to process payments
- Act as a back up IT support officer to support local operations
The job-holder will report to the Corporate Services Manager (CSM) and make recommendations to the Senior Leadership Team. After a period of initial training, the jobholder will be expected to work independently within the established guidelines.

Essential on arrival:
- A University or technical degree in a relevant area, such as health and safety, engineering, architecture or other related subject.
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Strong communication skills and a commitment to customer service
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with excellent attention to detail
- Resilient; able to deal with pressure and work flexibility to deal with competing demands
- Customer service skills
- IT skills including MS Office & Teams
- Driving licence
- The position requires pre-existing legal status to live and work in Uruguay
