About ICFG

  • The International Center for Future Generations (ICFG) is an independent think-and-do tank dedicated to shaping a future where decision-makers anticipate and responsibly govern the societal impacts of rapid technological change, ensuring that emerging technologies are harnessed to serve the best interests of humanity;
  • Our experts supply rigorous, independent, policy-oriented research and analysis that connects the dots between the frontiers of emerging technology development and the principles of good governance.

In short, we see ourselves as lobbyists for future generations.

The role

You support and assist our CEO, Board Members, current funders and Directors in their fundraising activities. Thanks to your preparation work, our colleagues have all the information they need to put forward our case and convince possible funders to invest in ICFG. Together as a team you’ll develop financial sustainability for ICFG in the many more years to come whilst safeguarding independence of our work.

How you will make an impact

  • Thorough research: With thorough research and a critical eye you’ll put together a comprehensive case on ICFG’s behalf (incl. technical, admin and financial reports) that our colleague can present to a possible donor, funder or grant provider. Each case will be different and via your alterations has to fit the situation. On the other hand you provide your ICFG colleague with thorough research pointing out background, context and relevant information so they are properly briefed in advance;
  • Clear written and verbal communication: Some of the preparation you’ll put into writing and some briefing is done orally. Seeking alignment with the communications team, with public affairs and our programs is a requirement to make the fundraising process qualitative;
  • Collaboration: In order to put together strong cases for ICFG, you’ll work with relevant ICFG colleagues to get or set up the information you need. Coordinate administrative tasks afterwards to the relevant ICFG department ensuring proper follow-up;
  • Networking & relationship-building: Though lots of leads will come from colleagues, we’d like you to pick up and execute on some leads too. Reaching out yourself to philanthropists, grant providers, NGOs and government organizations and engaging with your own network, is part of the role;
  • Continuous improvement: through short feedback loops, you continuously improve our fundraising process. We want to hear your ideas!

What you will need to succeed in this role

  • Lots of relevant experience in fundraising and an excellent network to hit the ground running and taking on this role on a senior level. You are the first and only colleague at ICFG (for now) to be taking on this role. You’ll report to Chief Communications Officer Rowan Emslie and are part of the communications team with currently three colleagues;
  • An interest in (emerging) technologies. To some extent you’ll need to dig into the content to see where our links with possible fundraisers lie. Our current programs focus on: Advanced AI, Neurotechnology, Biotechnology, Climate Interventions, Foresight, Governance and Quantum;
  • Not only is your English nearly native, you also manage to strike the right tone depending on each case and audience. Proficiency in any other language is a pro.

What we offer

  • A competitive salary or daily rate;
  • Flexibility: Overall we have a flexible working policy in terms of time and space. If you’re living in Belgium, we have a wonderful workspace in Brussels;
  • Learning & Development: An annual contribution toward personal education & development;
  • Wellness & Wellbeing: An annual contribution toward personal wellness & wellbeing;
  • Inclusive workplace: We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer, fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace for all.

How to apply

The attributes listed above represent our current thinking for the role. You can be a great candidate even if you don’t fit everything we’ve described above.
