CUPE Local 3902 (Unit 3) Job PostingSessional Lecturer PositionPosting Date: September 5, 2024Program: Master of Health Informatics (MHI)Sessional Dates of Appointment: Winter 2025, January to AprilCourse Title: MHI2008H – Project Management for Health InformaticsCourse Description:This course provides students with an introduction to the theory and practice of project management. It is intended to give students grounding in project management techniques as a preparation for participation in practice. The emphasis will be on practice versus theory; but, grounding in theoretical concepts is important to the Health Informatics Professional as well.This course is intended to prepare students to participate in, contribute to, lead, and succeed in future health informatics projects. Students will combine past of current experiences in projects together with insights from the course textbook and complimentary readings to develop new understandings and knowledge. In addition, this course is intended to integrate concepts learned in other foundational courses in the Health Informatics program.Objectives:This course is intended to help prepare students for careers in health informatics where much of the work is organized around projects conducted by designated project teams. As such, this course will heavily rely on the use of case studies and practical examples as the foundation for learning. Upon completion of this course, student should be able to:

  • demonstrate a basic understanding of project management principles and practices;
  • apply basic project management techniques and choose the appropriate project management supporting tools, and
  • function effectively on a project team of any size and as a project manager for small to medium sized projects.

  • PhD or Masters level education in health informatics or related field; PMP certification.
  • A robust understanding of project management in health informatics and/or health management;
  • Experience in information management in a health care setting;
  • Experience teaching graduate-level courses, preferably in health informatics;
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to mature students and facilitate group learning processes;
  • Comfortable with electronic teaching tools such as Learning Management Systems (e.g., Quercus), PowerPoint, as well as on-line collaboration tools (Blogs, Wikkis, Discussion Boards, Webinars, or Video-conferencing).

Duties:

  • Course instructor for a professional graduate course using competency-based learning and assessment methods.
  • Responsible for course delivery and assessment of student outcomes. Must be accessible to students outside of class hours.
