INTERNATIONAL WARS AND DISASTERS VICTIMS’ PROTECTION ASSOCIATION (IRVD) is a non -governmental organization established by a group of volunteers in Syria during the crisis in 2012 and registered in the USA, Sweden, and turkey.

IRVD is implementing projects through regional offices in Syria, Turkey, Lebanon, Yemen, Sudan, Iraq, Palestine, and Somalia.

Our work sectors are Health, Nutrition, Education, Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL), Protection, Shelter & Non-food items, Wash and Sanitation.

IRVD also manages development projects, advocates to empower civil societies and local governance.

Job Description

IRVD is seeking a lab technician in the Blood Bank that plays a critical role in the processing, testing, and distribution of blood products used for transfusion. This position involves performing laboratory procedures to ensure the quality and safety of blood products, as well as maintaining accurate records and documentation. The Lab Technician works under the supervision of the medical and administrative managers to support the efficient operation of the blood bank department.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests on blood samples, including blood typing, compatibility testing, infectious disease screening, and other assays, following established protocols and procedures.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment used in blood banking, such as automated analyzers, centrifuges, and refrigerators, ensuring proper calibration and performance.
  • Prepare blood components for transfusion, including red blood cells, platelets, and plasma, by processing whole blood donations and performing component separation techniques.
  • Perform quality control procedures on reagents, equipment, and test results, and document findings accurately in accordance with regulatory standards and accreditation requirements.
  • Assist with inventory management and stock rotation of blood products, reagents, and supplies, ensuring adequate levels for daily operations and emergency situations.
  • Participate in donor screening and blood collection activities, including interviewing donors, verifying donor eligibility, and performing phlebotomy procedures as needed.
  • Monitor blood storage conditions, including temperature and expiration dates, and take appropriate corrective actions if deviations are detected.
  • Assist in the investigation and resolution of technical problems or deviations in laboratory test results, in collaboration with the medical and administrative managers.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the laboratory work area, including proper disposal of biohazardous waste and adherence to safety protocols.

Ability to:

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in performing laboratory tests and documenting results.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with donors, patients, and healthcare professionals.
  • Commitment to quality improvement, patient safety, and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a related field required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or equivalent certification required.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting, with specific experience in blood banking preferred.
  • Knowledge of laboratory testing techniques and procedures related to blood banking.
  • Proficiency in operating laboratory equipment and performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting.

Languages:

  • Arabic and English are mandatory (oral and written)
