Performs a variety of moderately complex research tasks determined by the field and scope of the particular research project/study. Performs tasks related to the research project within broad guidelines and subject to periodic review by supervisor or other research staff.

We are seeking a motivated Senior/Lead Researcher to join the lab of Dr. Hu in the Department of Immunology at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. As part of the Department of Immunology at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Hu Laboratory is seeking to hire a dedicated Senior Researcher for a future opportunity. The successful candidate will work on multiple research projects by participating in conducting experiments, troubleshooting results, synthesizing data for analysis, and maintaining datasets. Specific duties include tissue culture, flow cytometry, in vivo murine work, genotyping, and other basic molecular biology techniques.

The fundamental goal of our research is to understand how the nervous system and immune system interact with each other in health and diseases. We study immunobiology, immunometabolism, and neuroimmunology, by focusing on the interaction of the immune system and the nervous system and its implications for health and diseases. As the immune system and nervous system are tightly connected to regulate host physiology and pathology, understanding these connections allows us to gain new insights into biological concepts and disease targets. We will combine advanced cellular and molecular techniques in immunology and neurobiology with genetic-engineering tools, quantitative proteomics, and multiplex imaging systems to interrogate neuro-immune interaction in pathophysiological conditions.

These projects are highly multidisciplinary, taking advantage of a wide range of techniques including flow cytometry, genetic cancer model, chemogenetics, light-sheet and spatial imaging, single-cell transcriptomics, genetic model of cancer, metabolism and behavior. We are seeking a highly motivated individual with an interest in immunology and Neuroimmunology. The ideal applicant will support efficient laboratory operations such as technical support for ongoing laboratory projects including data collection and analysis. Experience with flow cytometry, mouse husbandry, mouse colony management, brain and neurosurgery, electrophysiology, PCR, and cloning is preferred. Excellent communication, organization skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively are essential for this position.

The Ideal Candidate will have:

• Prior experience in animal husbandry, mouse colony management, brain surgery, electrophysiology, imaging, and/or behavior
• Ability to execute experiments and interpret data.
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary, highly collaborative environment.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills

 

 

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs laboratory experiments independently using established techniques/protocols.
  • Sets up protocols, trouble shoots experiments using new or modified laboratory techniques.
  • Accurately records experimental procedures and data.
  • Prepares and reports results/ data leading to posters, presentations or publications
  • May provide guidance to entry-level employees.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned in order to meet the goals of the department and institution
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance
  • May assist in the drafting and editing of manuscripts.
  • Maintain and organize mouse colony, perform genotyping
  • Provides basic lab operation support to include equipment maintenance and purchasing. Monitors inventory and orders lab supplies as needed. Performs calibration of instruments and equipment as necessary

 

Senior Researcher

Minimum Education and/or Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant scientific area is required.

 

Minimum Experience:

  • Two (2) years of relevant, post-degree work experience is required.
  • No experience is required with a Master’s degree.

 

Lead Researcher

Minimum Education and/or Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant scientific area is required

 

Minimum Experience:

  • Five (5) years of relevant, post-degree work experience is required
  • Two (2) years of relevant post-degree work experience is required with a Master’s degree
  • No experience is required with a PHD

 

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $65,520 – $114,400 per year for the role of Lead Researcher

This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $60,320 – $105,040 per year for the role of Lead/Senior Researcher-Department of Immunology.
