Fellowship for Ukrainian Scholars

The Center for European Policy Analysis (CEPA)

Position description

The Center for European Policy Analysis is accepting applications for its new two-year in-residence program, Fellowship for Ukrainian Scholars, designed for highly qualified Ukrainian academics and policy analysts, who are unable to continue engaging in their work due to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. As Putin’s war against Ukraine continues, CEPA strives to ensure that Ukrainian academic research informs the academic and policy communities with the notion that better knowledges leads to better outcomes.

The successful candidate will have academic training, to PhD level or equivalent, in or across the disciplines of history, political science, international relations, sociology or economics, 3-10 years of post-degree academic or equivalent professional experience, and a track-record of producing high-quality research in Ukrainian and English, and a strong reputation in the field. A knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods and a familiarity with a range of approaches to data collection and fieldwork is encouraged. The fellow should be able to contribute to the public and academic discourse through writing, analysis, and commentary on the current situation affecting Europe, their home country, and the wider region, including Sweden.

Resident at CEPA’s headquarters in Washington, DC, for a two-year period, the Fellow will be embedded in CEPA’s initiatives to provide analysis and strategic foresight on Ukraine’s future to decision makers and the interested public. Reporting to the Director of CEPA’s Democratic Resilience Program, the Fellow will also help to contribute to the Program’s Ukraine-focused work.

The Fellowship will cover a stipend, relevant logistical support for relocation, workspace, technical and administrative assistance, and an activity budget. The activity budget will be used for research and analysis.

The Fellow will be selected through an open, competitive process, focusing on applicants’ track record, reputation in the field, and ability to contribute to public discourse and education that will be reviewed by a selection committee. All applications received on or prior to Tuesday, July 9th will be under full consideration. Applications received after July 9th will be reviewed on a rolling basis. It is anticipated that the Fellow will take up the position in the autumn of 2024.
