Our commitment to excellence in imaging performance, innovative design, and uncompromising quality ensures our solutions consistently deliver best-in-class imaging, high reliability, and operator satisfaction, to help customers find threats and contraband with ease and confidence.Overview of role:This is an opportunity for an experimental X-ray scientist to join the X-ray source development team as part of a larger Engineering team designing new technologies for X-ray and CT imaging in the security market. The role will primarily involve the design and prototyping of new and novel X-ray sources but will also have an opportunity for involvement in the design of imaging systems.The role will suit an experimental physicist / scientist with some experience of X-ray or high power electron tube design.Responsibilities

  • To support the design and development of X-ray sources to improve image quality and threat detection capabilities in security screening systems.
  • To report into the Senior X-ray Scientist and to provide design and experimental support for technology development.
  • To actively contribute to the design of key tube subsystems such as electron guns, cathode technologies, anode design, high voltage insulators, etc.
  • To carryout assembly and experimental validation of new tube developments.
  • Analyse experimental data, interpret results and refine designs based upon findings.
  • To work collaboratively within the wider Engineering team to support the development of new imaging technologies.
  • To collaborate with the Production and Manufacturing Engineering teams to provide support for transferring proven technologies into production.
  • To support the continual improvement of current production technologies and to support legacy systems.
  • To develop interactions with other science and engineering teams globally to develop engagement on R&D projects.
  • To prepare technical reports, documentation and presentation for internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Postgraduate experienced in experimental radiation physics
  • Experience in the fields of ultra-high vacuum is required. Experience of high voltage is advantageous.
  • Strong experimental skills including the ability to design and conduct complex experiments.
  • The ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and to collaborate effectively within a developmental and manufacturing environment.
  • An understanding of X-ray dosimetry and shielding would be advantageous.
  • A PhD in experimental radiation physics or related topic is preferred.
