Overview

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory has an opening for a Benefits Consultant in the Human Resources Division. As a member of the Benefits Team, this role will play an integral part in ensuring the proper administration of benefits programs and providing excellent client-facing support. This includes triaging urgent benefits concerns, partnering with HR Team members to assess benefits programs, and providing ongoing recommendations for continuous process improvement. As a project hire, this role’s a nticipated duration is 2 years, but there is a possibility of it being extended based on business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Implement necessary reports and auditing to ensure proper administration of benefits, including retirement plans.

  • Provide benefits information, support, and guidance to employees and/or third-party administrators.

  • Maintain summary plan information to ensure compliance with plan provisions as well as state and federal regulations.

  • Provide recommendations to complex issues based upon extensive benefits training, knowledge, and experience.

  • Work closely with partners to resolve issues that impact benefits, including root cause analysis, remediation, and communication to any impacted employees.

  • Handle day to day administration of benefits inquiries from employees, managers, and vendors.

  • Assist with annual open enrollment, including implementation of new vendors, system updates and testing, creating communications, and post-enrollment audits.

  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams in the completion of the complex Benefits projects; represent the team’s findings and recommendations.

  • Interface directly with systems personnel regarding procedures and enhancements to benefit systems.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS/BA and 5 years of relevant experience -OR-

  • MS/MA or higher and 3 years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate level degree in Business Administration or Human Resources.

  • Professional license and/or certification.

  • Knowledge of HRIS, payroll systems, and benefits/retirement systems.

  • Demonstrated experience implementing, configuring and administering benefits through Workday.

  • Extensive experience communicating benefits information to management, employees, and their families.

  • Experience with benefits and retirement program implementation and administration.

  • Experience working on complex projects.

  • High degree of PC literacy, Windows, MS Word, Excel, Access, HRIS, and other applications and systems.

  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations and principles and theories of benefits programs.

  • Customer service skills that demonstrate responsiveness to customer needs and professional demeanor.

  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work and to take initiative for implementing more efficient workflow processes.

To obtain this credential, new employees must successfully complete and pass a Federal Tier 1 background check investigation. This includes marijuana and cannabis derivatives, which are still considered illegal under federal law, regardless of state laws.
