The British Embassy in Cairo is looking to recruit a Driver under the Defence Section, job grade S1.
The main purpose of the Driver’s main responsibility is the provision of a safe, efficient and effective service to Defence Section and official visitors when required. This includes professional and safe driver services and providing a messenger and administrative support service.
The Defence Driver is discreet, courteous, has strong customer service skills and ensures that the vehicle fleet is always clean, in good running condition and that regular maintenance schedules are followed.
The successful candidate will assist the Defence Attaché, and will manage the Defence Section’s administration and filing, and support Defence training delivery.
Roles and responsibilities:
- Professional driver for Defence Section and official passengers, working under the direction of the Defence Section PA.
- Management of Defence Section vehicles including daily maintenance checks, a high level of cleanliness, vehicle journey record sheets and fuel records are kept updated.
- Delivery of correspondence or goods within Cairo to other nations or Egyptian Military.
- Assisting official visitors to Cairo through the airport immigration and luggage clearance.
- Translator / Facilitator whilst on official visits within Egypt.
- Conduct additional duties as directed.
- Responsible for the good order of the Defence vehicle pool.

Eligibility:
Applicants must have the legal right to live and work in Egypt.
Remuneration:
The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including a non-negotiable gross salary of USD 548 per month, subject to insurance and tax as per the usual regulations, based on a 42 hours per week. The successful applicant will be working on a shift pattern with the current driver, days & nights. There will be an opportunity for overtime, if and when needed.
Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary may have their salaries reduced by the equivalent local income tax amount.
We offer a competitive package including medical benefits, performance related bonus, recreational facilities, opportunities for job related training and development, etc. There are no other allowances payable as part of this package. No accommodation nor relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.
This role is for a full-time employment, on a fixed term contract basis for one (1) year, subject to three (3) months’ probationary period. The contract may be extended, subject to satisfactory performance and on on-going business requirement.

Process:
The recruitment process, including security clearance, is expected to take around 2-3 months. The security clearance process includes checks available in country and with UK, dependant on the security level required for the role and the candidates profile and UK footprint. You may experience some delay in the progress of this recruitment campaign, and we are working hard to minimise any disruption.
Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful at interview may be placed on a ‘reserve list’. If during the reserve period of six (6) months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.
