Organizational positioning:

  • Under the administrative supervision of the Regional Project Director based in Chad (to be confirmed).
  • Responsible for the thematic supervision of three national specialists.
  • Technical collaboration with the Gender and Equality Advisor based in Canada.

Compensation Based on market rates

Duration 1 year renewable

Citizenship Be authorized to work in one of the four countries listed above

Language requirements Excellent command of French; Fluency in English an asset. Knowledge of the national/local languages of the project area would be an asset.

About the project

The Lake Chad Basin Wetland Conservation Project aims to improve the climate resilience of ecosystems and marginalized communities structurally vulnerable to climate change, particularly women and youth, through nature-based climate solutions in six RAMSAR sites in the Lake Chad Basin (BLT) in Cameroon, Chad, and Niger. This will be achieved through an integrated approach involving the following intermediate outcomes:

  • rehabilitation/restoration of wetland ecosystems to support better conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity (BD) in protected areas registered under the RAMSAR Convention on Wetlands.
  • the rehabilitation/restoration of agropastoral areas while increasing the adoption and benefits of climate-resilient agropastoral livelihoods within and near target RAMSAR sites.
  • strengthening the leadership of women & youth in environmental peacebuilding in and around target RAMSAR sites, and in the existing regional stabilization process.

The Role

We are looking for a dedicated and experienced individual to join our team as Regional Value Chain and Income Generating Activities Coordinator. The role will

involve :Support national specialists (x3) in identifying and analyzing agricultural value chains with strong potential for income-generating activities and climate change resilience for women and young people in the various project implementation sites:

  • Guide national specialists, the gender team and the overall project management team in the development, management, and monitoring-evaluation of a micro-grants program for women and youth.
  • Support national specialists in providing technical assistance, training, and networking opportunities to value chain actors in business plan development, innovative practices, and climate-smart technologies.
  • Document and share lessons learned, best practices and success stories.
  • Ensure quality control and programmatic coherence, sensitive to gender and climate change considerations, in the three countries of implementation.
  • Represent the project in relevant forums, networks and working groups.
  • Prepare and compile reports (activities, milestones, semi-annual, annual, etc.), technical notes and work plans.

Qualifications:

  • University studies in rural or agricultural economics, business management, social sciences, business administration or a related field.
  • At least 5 to 10 years’ experience in the design, implementation and management of value chain projects and income-generating activities, preferably with a focus on gender equality and women’s empowerment.
  • Proven experience in conducting gender analyses (ideally gender-based analysis plus), designing gender-sensitive interventions and integrating gender into the implementation of income-generating activities.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and facilitation skills, with the ability to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage projects, budgets, and deadlines, with a results-oriented approach.
  • Commitment to the organization’s values (integrity, excellence, accountability).
  • Ability to work in a multicultural, inclusive, and equitable environment.
  • Experience in the project area would be an asset.
