The Diabetes and Endocrinology Department falls under the remit of the Community Collaborative within North Cumbria Integrated Care foundation Trust ( NCIC)You will support the provision of both inpatient and outpatient diabetes and endocrinology care and the development and implementation of the integrated diabetes pathway with our Community partners and the ICB.You will be one of 3 consultants within the team also comprising of Diabetes Specialist Nurses and Diabetes Dieticians. The post holder would support the inpatient and outpatient service and link with a community nursing service with an expanding pump therapy service. There is collaborative working with obstetrics and Paediatrics by the way of joint diabetes antenatal and a transitional young adult clinics to aid smooth transition to adult care.There is also a highly developed multidisciplinary foot care team that supervise the care of patients with diabetic foot complications. The successful applicant will be joining a highly motivated integrated group of diabetes care providers and will be expected to be an active contributor to the team.Main duties of the jobWe are looking to appoint a dynamic and forward-thinking Consultant within the Trust covering North Cumbria. The Directorate would equally welcome applications from existing and newly trained ConsultantsThis is an opportunity to join an organisation in which Clinicians are at the forefront of management.The programme of training for each individual doctor will be flexible depending on his/her particular needs and stage of training.Our Diabetes and Endocrine consultants are responsible for providing specialist care to patients in inpatient settings, Specialty outpatient clinics in both the acute and community settings, advice and guidance and education to primary care and community services.The ideal candidate will be innovative, forward thinking and supportive to developing an all-encompassing integrated service to support the residents of Cumbria across primary and secondary care. IThere is plenty of opportunities to specialise within the Diabetes and Endocrine service with the following specialist services provided

  • Young people’s clinics
  • Transition joint clinics with paediatricians
  • Dedicated Diabetes Foot Services, with podiatric and vascular nurse input.
  • Joint Ante-natal clinics
  • Provision of DAFNE and DESMOND
  • Provision of insulin pump services with dedicated pump clinics
  • Endocrine clinics
  • Complex diabetes clinics both in hospital & community

Qualifications
Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Full registration with GMC

Desirable

  • Relevant PG qualification ( MD or PhD)

Experience
Essential

  • Shall have completed at least four years’ full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in Diabetes and Endocrinology or as a fixed term specialty trainee in Diabetes and Endocrinology or shall have equivalent experience and competencies.
  • Familiar with clinical governance
  • Willing and able to work with colleagues in management, nursing and other specialities to ensure the delivery of a high quality, safe and reliable
