Contract type: Full Time (37.5 hours) – PermanentYou will work with the Head of Department to lead a team of English tutors, ensuring the effective delivery of all English and Academic Skills modules, across all courses and programmes, in line with our education strategy, broader scholarship and aims for an outstanding student experience. You will also contribute directly to student support and to the development and implementation of innovative teaching practices across the Centre. As an assistant head of department, you will contribute to the design, development and production of teaching and learning materials and deliveryABOUT THE ROLE

  • Support the Head of the Department in leading and motivating a team of Academic English Tutors to contribute to ensuring the best possible student outcomes and student experience on English and Academic Skills courses and modules.
  • Participate in regular meetings with teaching and support staff contributing to the effective overall management of the programme and the student life cycle
  • Supervise progression tracking and similar student outcome-focussed initiatives.
  • Provide effective performance management of direct reports, including setting personal objectives and KPIs; regularly reviewing performance; and conducting formal performance reviews according to company policy and procedures.
  • Recruit new academic staff for English and Academic Skills courses and modules as required and according to Study Group policies and procedures.
  • Facilitate, encourage and support staff to participate in regular personal development activities.
  • Plan and undertake regular personal development as agreed with the Head of Academic English Skills
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of students for whom you are responsible and with whom you come into contact.
  • Deputise for the Head of the Department when necessary
  • Contribute to the design, delivery and development of modules offered by the centre.
  • Contribute to the delivery and assessment of provision
  • Prepare module examinations and other forms of formative and summative assessment, mark and provide feedback to students
  • Update and maintain the Virtual Learning Environments (VLE, Studysmart)

ABOUT YOU

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject area.
  • Relevant Teaching qualification (e.g. DELTA, TEFL, MA Linguistics).
  • Experience of teaching in UK higher or further education and preferably a teaching qualification and experience of working with international students.
