We have an exciting opportunity here at Leeds Teaching Hospitals due to an expansion of our rota. We are recruiting 3 Trust Grade Doctor (Level ST3+) post within the second largest Major Trauma Centre in the UK based at the Leeds General Infirmary.We are looking for a junior doctor to take up full and/or part-time posts and can offer deferred appointments. Candidates who are unable to work full time are encouraged to apply and consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work full or part-time and those wishing to job share. Shorter duration contracts will also be considered for the right candidate.Above all we need a ST3+ Trust Grade Doctor in Trauma and Orthopaedics with a positive attitude, who will deliver quality services with compassion and become an integral member of a dedicated and dynamic team. Job responsibilitiesThe post holder will work with a team of surgeons to provide inpatient care for both trauma and elective patients. The post holder will be on a 24 hour partial shift, on the third tier supporting the FY1/2, and ST1/2 doctors.Leeds Teaching Hospitals is a leading healthcare institution, excelling in patient care, teaching and research. We provide Trauma and Orthopaedic services from two sites within Leeds. All trauma is admitted to the Leeds General Infirmary and elective work is undertaken at Chapel Allerton Hospital, approximately 3 miles from the Infirmary. The Trust Grade Doctor will be expected to work at both sites.Their duties will include:Fracture ClinicsTrauma and Elective Orthopaedic surgeryWeekend Hip listsWard rounds and patient reviewsSupport to FY1/2, and ST1/2 doctors.Full in house educational and clinical supervision and mentoring packageAccess to participate in on-going departmental research and audit presentations.Opportunities to teach undergraduatesAccess to clinical governance meetings.All Trauma is admitted to the Leeds General Infirmary. The Trauma referral base is from the whole of the Yorkshire Region, a population of approximately 3.5 million. Particular specialist services provided are open fractures, post injury limb reconstruction and complex fracture work. There is a specific interest in polytrauma and many peripheral units refer most of their multiple injuries straight to Leeds General Infirmary on day one. This post is designed to support this well established Trauma service.A regional service is provided for acute trauma and post trauma reconstructive surgery as well as General Elective Orthopaedic services for hand surgery, paediatric surgery at the LGI. There is a General Elective Orthopaedic service currently provided for complex and revision lower limb arthroplasty, upper limb, knee, foot and ankle surgery are provided at Chapel Allerton Hospital.Leeds General Infirmary has 3 orthogeriatric wards, one trauma ward, one paediatric ward including 2 paediatric HDU beds, one spinal surgery ward and a four bedded HDU shared with plastic surgery. There are 3 trauma theatres running all day lists. All trauma outpatients are seen in a dedicated fracture clinic with supporting radiology facilities.Chapel Allerton Hospital has 2 dedicated orthopaedic rehabilitation wards and one 14 bedded post-operative care ward. There are 4 dedicated orthopaedic clean air theatres. The rehabilitation wards are focused on rapid post op rehabilitation with a large dedicated Physiotherapy and Occupation Therapy team. Elective orthopaedic outpatients are seen at Chapel Allerton Hospital with supporting radiology facilities including an MRI scanner.Medical Staff in the DepartmentTrauma and Orthopaedic department of surgery is a large unit contributing to both service delivery and academic research. There are 32 Consultants including a Professor of Trauma surgery and all main branches of Trauma and Orthoapedic Surgery are represented. The department consists of:32 substantive Consultants & Locums20 ST3+ level1 National Spine Fellow & 1 National Hand Fellow7 Clinical/Research Fellows/(Trust Doctors)3 CT1/2 level Deanery posts / 5 Trust posts4 FY2 Doctors6 FY1 DoctorsThe department is supported by Trauma co-ordinators and clinical nurse specialistsDuties of the PostTo ensure high quality and safe care of Orthopaedic patients resulting in excellent clinical outcomes.To contribute directly to patient care by, for example, reviewing patients, organising investigations and acting on results, initiating and changing treatment, and speaking to and involving patients in their care and management and keeping patients and their relatives/carers updated about their clinical progress.To undertake essential administrative duties, including prescribing, writing electronic discharge letters, and liaising with colleagues in primary care to facilitate safe and appropriate discharges.To contribute to a multidisciplinary approach to patient care, working collaboratively with a large team of allied healthcare professionals, including the Early Discharge Assessment Team, specialist nurses and physiotherapists.Out of hours Duties at Leeds General InfirmaryThere are 2 separate consultants on-call one for MTC admissions and one for orthopaedic trauma. This job has on-call commitments and is a combination of full shift and on-call.Person Specification
