Together, we will become the world’s leading cancer reference laboratory.Position Summary:As a Senior Scientist you will devise new algorithms, analytical methodologies, and custom assay metrics to assist in the development, optimization, and interpretation of genomic assays in the field of liquid biopsies. You will also be responsible for the design of cutting-edge algorithms, novel analyte detection methods, and high-performance classifiers that will thrust a line of innovative cancer diagnostics, cancer monitoring, and cancer profiling products currently under development. In this role you will work closely with the technology development team to convert prototypical algorithms into robust and scalable modules, assist in integrating those modules into production-ready pipelines, and collaborate on post-deployment troubleshooting of pipelines.Responsibilities:

  • Implementing novel and traditional bioinformatics tools to analyze next-generation sequencing data for biomarker detection and clinical testing
  • Maintain analysis pipelines for clinical next-generation sequencing testing
  • Support product development and validation with data exploration, integration, and analysis
  • Manage independent analysis projects for the development of novel methodologies and algorithms for the analysis of ctDNA
  • Mentor and provide technical support to other team/department members as necessary
  • In close collaboration with the TechDev team, lead the design and analysis of proof-of-concept experiments aimed at further developing and validating diagnostic assays
  • Come up with solutions to adapt existing workflows for clinical/pharma projects and communicate results to both internal and external collaborators
  • Additional Responsibilities may be assigned as needed

Experience and Required Qualifications:

  • PhD in computational biology, bioinformatics, applied statistics, or similar field; OR Master’s in computational biology, bioinformatics, applied statistics, or a similar field and three additional years of experience in the industry; OR Bachelor’s in computational biology, bioinformatics, applied statistics, or a similar field and five additional years of experience in the industryExpertise in ctDNA, MRD analysis would be highly advantageous.
  • Four or more years of applied clinical Liquid Biopsy, MRD or NGS based diagnostic device experience
  • Experience with popular bioinformatics tools and file formats (Samtools, BEDTools, BWA, VEP, SnpEff, GATK/Mutect, Vardict, VCF, BAM)
  • Experience with cancer samples databases, germline and somatic variant databases (TCGA, COSMIC, gnomAD, DBSNP)
  • Experience in novel algorithm development, data mining, and machine learning
  • Experience with cancer genomics data
  • Scientific programming experience in R and Python
  • Experience with variant calling and exome/WGS pipelines
  • Experience with project tracking techniques and tools: Jira, Smartsheet
  • Prior experience working in a regulated environment, particularly for software and quality assurance, such as ISO 13485, EN 62304, ISO 15189, or other (Desired)
  • Travel: 5% or less
